HR Specialist (Hands-On) – Recruiting, Retention & Operations
Lighting Maintenance Inc. (LMI)

We are looking for a HR Specialist who drives recruitment, strengthens retention, and keeps HR operations tight and accountable. You will have support—but you are expected to produce. If you like fast pace, real responsibility, and measurable impact, this role delivers. Bilingual and experience in the trades preferred. #ZR

What You’ll Do

Recruiting & Workforce Development

  • Own the full hiring cycle: sourcing, screening, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding
  • Actively manage Indeed, LinkedIn, Zip Recruiter, trade schools, and referral pipelines
  • Build continuous pipelines for electricians, CDL drivers, technicians, coordinators, and leadership roles
  • Develop relationships with vocational schools and apprenticeship programs
  • Partner with managers to forecast hiring needs and maintain staffing levels

Retention & Employee Engagement

  • Identify turnover trends and implement corrective action
  • Conduct stay interviews, exit interviews, and new hire check-ins (30/60/90 day)
  • Develop retention initiatives that actually move the needle
  • Support leadership in improving culture, communication, and accountability

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Oversee onboarding, orientation, and training coordination
  • Manage benefits administration, enrollments, and employee support
  • Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws
  • Handle employee relations, investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations
  • Ensure proper documentation and risk mitigation across all HR functions

Performance Management & Leadership Support

  • Implement and manage performance review processes
  • Coach managers on handling performance issues and team development
  • Support workforce planning and organizational structure improvements
  • Assist in developing job descriptions, career paths, and compensation alignment

Systems, Reporting & Process Improvement

  • Manage and optimize HR systems (HRIS, applicant tracking, onboarding tools)
  • Track and report key metrics: time-to-hire, turnover, retention, cost per hire
  • Audit HR processes and implement improvements for efficiency and scalability
  • Support integration and alignment with company systems (BuildOps, MITER, Sage Intacct)

Policy, Training & Safety Coordination

  • Develop, update, and enforce company policies and procedures
  • Coordinate training programs including safety, compliance, and onboarding
  • Work with operations to ensure workforce readiness and certification tracking
  • Support safety initiatives and documentation in coordination with leadership

Administrative & Daily Execution

  • Assist with payroll coordination and employee status changes
  • Manage unemployment claims, workers comp coordination, and HR reporting
  • Respond quickly to employee and manager requests—no backlog mentality
  • Be present and engaged—this is a high-visibility role across the company

What We’re Looking For

  • 5 years of HR experience with strong recruiting ownership
  • Experience in construction, trades, or service industry strongly preferred
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and execution-driven
  • Strong communicator who can work across field teams and leadership
  • Comfortable handling conflict, making decisions, and taking ownership
  • Self-starter who identifies problems and solves them without being asked
