Safety Specialist

Part-Time 3rd Shift - Friday & Saturday - 12am-8am

Be the welcoming face, calm presence, and safety champion at the Sheakley Center for Youth!

Are you someone who can make people feel welcome while also keeping an eye on what’s happening around you? Do you stay calm when things get challenging, think on your feet, and know when it’s time to ask for backup?

We’re looking for a Safety Specialist who is ready to help create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for youth, families, visitors, and staff at the Sheakley Center for Youth.

This is more than a front desk role. You’ll be a key part of the team—welcoming people through the door, managing building access, supporting youth, responding to unexpected situations, and helping make sure everyone gets where they need to go safely.

What You’ll Do

  • Be the first friendly face people see. Greet visitors and clients, provide temporary badges, and keep accurate visitor logs.
  • Keep the phones moving. Answer, screen, and transfer incoming calls with professionalism and patience.
  • Handle information with care. Process requests for information, data, and documents—including information that may be confidential or sensitive.
  • Be a problem-solver. Respond to questions and concerns quickly, calmly, and respectfully—and recognize when an issue needs to be escalated.
  • Know what’s happening. Stay aware of youth activities and whereabouts while helping maintain a safe, positive, and productive environment.
  • Build relationships with youth. Use patience, empathy, and a trauma-informed approach to help resolve front-door and screening concerns.
  • Keep safety first. Follow established screening procedures for youth and visitors entering the building.
  • Keep the tools of safety ready. Maintain inventory and functionality of keys, badges, and radios, and report discrepancies or security concerns.
  • Respond when it matters. Help address security breaches and prepare accurate reports related to incidents, accidents, or intruders.
  • Pitch in as part of the team. Step into the Adult Care Specialist role when needed.

You’ll Be Great in This Role If You Are…

  • people person who knows how to provide excellent customer service.
  • Trauma-informed and able to approach challenging situations with empathy and understanding.
  • Someone with integrity who can be trusted with sensitive information and responsibilities.
  • A strong communicator who builds positive relationships with youth, families, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Patient and tolerant, especially when situations don’t go according to plan.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite and learning new systems.
  • Flexible and adaptable—because no two days in this environment are exactly alike.
  • A confident problem-solver who can stay calm and think clearly under pressure.
Qualifications:

What You’ll Need

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.

Preferred:

  • At least 1 year of experience working with youth.
  • Educational background or college coursework in education, social work, psychology, or a related field.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification.

What the Environment Is Really Like

This is an essential, on-site position—there is no remote option.

You’ll work in a professional residential setting that may include shelters, group homes, and/or detention facilities serving youth ages 0–24. Depending on the program, the environment can be fast-paced, unpredictable, and physically and emotionally demanding.

The role may involve exposure to:

  • Loud or stressful environments
  • Verbal or physical aggression
  • Bloodborne or airborne pathogens
  • Restricted movement outside the facility
  • High-stress or potentially hazardous situations
  • Prolonged periods of sitting or restricted movement

This position requires someone who can maintain professionalism, compassion, and good judgment—even when the day gets tough.

Be Ready to Move!

This is an active role. You’ll regularly talk and listen, stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the day.

You must also be able to frequently lift and move items weighing more than 50 pounds.

Schedule & Flexibility

Your schedule will align with the needs of the assigned site and the youth and families we serve. This may include:

  • Evenings
  • Nights
  • Weekends
  • Holidays

Flexibility is an important part of being successful in this role.

Transportation

The position may require transporting clients using a personal or company vehicle.

Why This Role Matters

At the end of the day, this role is about more than badges, phones, logs, and procedures.

It’s about creating a safe front door.

You’ll help make sure young people and the people supporting them enter a space where safety, respect, accountability, and care matter. If you’re dependable, compassionate, observant, and ready to make a difference—even when things get challenging—we’d love to have you on the team.

Come be the calm in the chaos, the friendly face at the door, and a champion for safety.
