Lighthouse Risk is currently seeking an Underwriting Assistant to join our team in Tampa, FL.
Position Overview:
The Underwriting Assistant will play a critical support role within the underwriting team, handling submissions, data entry, and document processing while gaining exposure to the MGA underwriting process. This role is ideal for someone detail-oriented and motivated to build a career in commercial insurance.
Submission Management
- Review incoming submissions for completeness and accuracy.
- Enter data into underwriting and rating systems.
- Track submission status and coordinate with brokers and underwriters.
Underwriting Support
- Prepare account files, rating worksheets, and documentation for underwriter review.
- Assist with gathering supplemental information (loss runs, inspection reports, etc.).
- Generate quotes, binders, and policy documents under direction of underwriters.
Broker & Partner Communication
- Respond to broker inquiries regarding required information, status updates, and documentation.
- Support timely delivery of quotes, binders, and policies.
Operational Efficiency
- Maintain organized records of submissions and policies.
- Assist in developing process improvements to streamline underwriting workflow.
- Support compliance with underwriting guidelines, audit requirements, and service standards.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field preferred
- 1–3 years of insurance industry experience (underwriting support, operations, or processing preferred).
- Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort with underwriting/rating platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
