What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Teacher position at Lightbridge Academy?
The Teacher Assistant is a vital member of the classroom and is responsible for carrying out and insuring that certain duties are carried out. These duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Qualifications: Meets the minimum Lightbridge Academy and State requirements.
- Follows and exemplifies the Lightbridge Academy Circle of Care philosophy and Core Values.
- Must be reliable and dependable.
- Is in good physical, mental and emotional health to perform all job duties satisfactorily, including engaging in physical activity, lifting approximately 35 lbs, etc.
- Recognizes the needs of the children and takes care of them promptly.
- Creating an atmosphere that is positive for learning and that stimulates critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making.
- Can read, write, and communicate using proper English grammar.
- Assists in writing and implementing lesson plans that are appropriate to the age group involved in accordance with The Lightbridge Academy Seedlings curriculum.
- Assists in observes and assessing students for creating and maintaining individual profiles, portfolios and parent conferences.
- Can use and understand technology, IPods, IPads, Microsoft word, etc.
- Maintains interaction with children at all times.
- Understands daily need for small group/whole group interactive learning.
- Conveys a positive attitude at all times while working with the children, parents and other staff members including administration.
- Assists parents during “arrival” and “departure”.
- Conveys and follows philosophy of positive reinforcement and redirection.
- Maintains a safe and clean atmosphere for the children at all times. All sanitary procedures are to be followed regarding diaper changes, potty learning, toys and classroom sterilization.
- Is flexible and acts positively toward suggestions which are intended to improving performance and implement changes where necessary and willing to help other team members in unusual circumstances.
- Works cooperatively with the director, teammates, staff members and parents.
- Recognizes that gossip is inappropriate and threatens the success of the team. Avoids such conversations.
- Encourages a partnering relationship with the parent to work as a team for the benefit of the child.
- Assists parents in following classroom procedures and policies (ie: labeling child’s belongings follow through with classroom schedule, etc.)
- Reports to work, is punctual and arrives with enough time to settle in and be within assigned classroom by scheduled start time.
- Dressed appropriately in uniform, khaki pants, blue Lightbridge Academy shirt or navy blue scrubs if in Infant room. Name tag.
- Does not take excessive days off.
- Before teacher leaves for the day, ask if there is anything that they made need to inform a parent about.
- Check communication log or wipe off boards for messages.
- Completes all tasks as assigned by the administrations.
- Is flexible and willing to help other team members in unusual circumstances.
- Abides by and carries out all company policies as stated in the employee and parent’s handbooks.
- Keeps all company information confidential, including curriculum, policies, children’s evaluations, parent information and information about other staff members.
- Expected to attend all staff meetings and workshops.
- Must complete a minimum of 15 hours of ongoing training through staff meetings and workshops.
- Abides and understands all licensing procedures including State Licensing, Fire Dept., Health Dept., etc and including company policies as stated in the employee handbook.
- Inquires with Administration if any part of job description, classroom management, employee handbook or any other aspect of job is not clearly understood.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $15.50 - $17.00 per hour
