Light of the World Montessori Preschool is located in Pinckney, Michigan. A ministry of Shalom Life Church, Light of the World Montessori Preschool is seeking a full-time preschool teacher.
Job summary
The preschool teacher guides children aged 3 to 6 through a Montessori curriculum that emphasizes hands-on, self-directed learning. The teacher's primary role is to observe each child's development, prepare the learning environment, and introduce new materials to meet their individual needs and interests. This role is focused on the holistic development of the child – academically, emotionally, and socially.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain the prepared environment: Design a safe, clean, and organized classroom with a variety of Montessori materials that are accessible to the children.
- Observe and guide students: Closely observe students to understand their individual needs, interests, and developmental stages. Introduce new lessons and materials one-on-one or in small groups as children show readiness.
- Facilitate independent learning: Encourage students to choose their own “work,” allowing them to explore and learn at their own pace.
- Develop social and emotional skills: Model and teach appropriate social behavior, conflict resolution, and problem-solving strategies to foster a sense of community and respect among students.
- Communicate with parents: Build strong relationships with families through regular communication, parent-teacher conferences, and educational materials that explain the Montessori philosophy and curriculum.
- Assess student progress: Monitor and document each child's growth and development using observation notes, portfolios, and progress reports.
- Ensure safety and well-being: Supervise children to ensure their safety and hygiene, including assisting with personal care as needed.
- Collaborate with staff: Work with assistant teachers and other school leadership to ensure a cohesive educational experience.
- Continue professional development: Stay current with Montessori pedagogy and child development through ongoing professional development and training.
Qualifications and skills
- Educational background: An associate’s or bachelor's degree in any field.
- Experience: Previous experience working with preschool-aged children is preferred.
- Excellent observational skills: The ability to closely and effectively observe children's behavior and learning patterns is essential.
- Patience and communication: Must have immense patience and the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with both young children and their parents.
- Adaptability: The ability to adjust teaching methods and techniques to suit the different learning needs of children in a mixed-age environment.
- Organizational skills: Excellent planning and organizational skills for maintaining the classroom and tracking student progress.
- Passion for the philosophy: A genuine love for children and a deep commitment to the Montessori method of education.
Pay range
This is a salaried nine-month position, from $35,000 to $40,000.
