Summary Of Internship
Light of Life Rescue Mission serves people in the Northside of Pittsburgh who are experiencing homelessness, poverty, and other related challenges. We seek an Intern to assist our Women & Children's Long-term Program. The intern's role will be to help strengthen female clients' family units, mainly through childcare while mothers engage in program activities. Light of Life will pay a $400/week stipend for 25-28 hours per week.
Internship Responsibilities
Light of Life Rescue Mission serves people in the Northside of Pittsburgh who are experiencing homelessness, poverty, and other related challenges. We seek an Intern to assist our Women & Children's Long-term Program. The intern's role will be to help strengthen female clients' family units, mainly through childcare while mothers engage in program activities. Light of Life will pay a $400/week stipend for 25-28 hours per week.
Internship Responsibilities
- Assists childcare team in the implementation of children's and parent programming to strengthen and improve the family unit and quality of life.
- Overseeing daily classroom activities for mainly the Nursery 0-4 years, and occasionally School-Aged Room
- Implement family-based curriculum and lesson plans, including family events, summer programming, and field trips.
- Provides overall support and care to children and families as needed.
- Provide support to volunteers in day-to-day care of children in the nursery and school aged children during the summer.
- Attend overnight Family Camp with mothers and children and assist in planning process - August 15-17th
- Execute case management tasks for family and child-related needs including referrals, and monthly home visits etc.
- Opportunity to assist in at-home visits inspections.
- Record a weekly report of day-to-day activities and take photos of programming and fieldtrips for grant reporting
- Serve as an advocate and encourager for families that are recovering from homelessness and drug or alcohol addiction.
- Exposure to motivational interviewing style of goal setting

- Classroom and behavioral management
- Observe children for developmental milestones and make appropriate referrals
