Responsibilities
- Accompany congregational hymns, responses, and choir performances during worship services using piano, organ, or other instruments as appropriate
- Collaborate with pastors, choir directors, and worship leaders to select appropriate music that aligns with liturgical themes and service plans
- Rehearse with choir members and soloists to ensure cohesive and polished performances during services and special events
- Prepare and maintain musical scores, ensuring all music is ready ahead of each service or event
- Assist in organizing special musical programs, seasonal concerts, and community outreach events
- Support the development of new musical arrangements that enhance the worship experience
- Maintain the upkeep of musical instruments and related equipment to ensure optimal performance
Skills
- Proficiency in piano, organ, or other relevant keyboard instruments with the ability to adapt to various musical styles
- Knowledge of the Lectionary (for the Anglican church) and music appropriate for each Sunday
- Strong understanding of church liturgy and ability to select appropriate music for different services and occasions
- Experience working with choirs or vocal ensembles is highly desirable
- Knowledge of theater techniques can enhance performance dynamics and audience engagement
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating effectively with clergy, musicians, and congregation members
- Ability to read sheet music fluently and improvise when necessary
