Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily lab schedule to ensure patients experience no delays in testing or specimen collection.
- Collect and process blood, urine, stool, and saliva samples following established protocols.
- Provide clear, supportive instructions to patients on how to properly collect and submit at-home test kits.
- Verify that all patient lab orders and payments are complete prior to testing.
- Package and ship specimens to designated laboratories following all safety and mailing guidelines.
- Track all lab samples to confirm timely delivery, receipt, and analysis by outside laboratories.
- Maintain accurate records of all patient interactions, tests, and specimen shipments in the EMR system.
- Monitor and maintain inventory to ensure test kits and supplies are adequately stocked and within expiration.
- Adhere to infection control standards, following daily cleaning and sterilization protocols.
- Report patient emergencies or concerning indicators immediately to the Practitioner’s Assistant.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all practice policies and health regulations.
- Phlebotomy certification and proven experience performing venipuncture required.
- Minimum of 2 years of phlebotomy experience.
- Knowledge of basic medical and laboratory terminology.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to follow protocols.
- Compassionate and patient-focused, with the ability to provide emotional support to those experiencing illness.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in healthcare or lab setting.
- Excellent communication and patient service skills.
- Proficient in EMR, Word, and Excel; typing speed of 40 WPM.
- Must speak English. Must have excellent communication skills, making patients feel comfortable and at ease.
- Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 7 hours per shift) while performing specimen collection and preparation.
- Frequent handling of patient specimens and laboratory materials (including blood, urine, stool, and saliva).
- Regular use of computers for data entry and lab tracking.
