Assistant Director of Nursing Services

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (This is not an exhaustive list of all duties/responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned)

• Coordinate scheduling and staff assignments to ensure that sufficient staff is available to meet the needs of the patients and acuity level of the census.
• Obtain and maintain staff to meet the needs of the hospital.
• Train and educate staff as necessary to maintain current certifications and development.
• Implement nursing policies and procedures that nursing staff can follow that meet regulatory requirements.
• Maintain admissions and transfers that meet psychiatric acute care criteria for our hospital and our capability/capacity.
• Coordinate with staff scheduler, scheduling of all psychiatric technicians and nurses. At least 2 weeks of the master schedule will be placed at nurses’ station to allow adequate time for staff to review and make changes as necessary.
• Ensure that staff are following the policies and procedures by auditing charts 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours after the patient gets admitted.
• Ensure that licensed nurses are properly checking for medication errors and provider orders are completed by auditing night R.N. 24-hour chart checks periodically throughout the week.
• Attend all treatment team meetings and ensure all treatment plans are individualized and include nursing concerns, infection control issues, main psychiatric problem, and discharge planning.
• Coordinate communication between departments, providers, and administrator.
• On-call for any incidents that occur including but not limited to: falls, medication errors, violence, property damage, staff injuries, and restraints (chemical, physical). The safety of staff, patients and property must always be ensured.
• On-call for nursing shortages to ensure staff coverage for the hospital.
• Collect nursing shift assignment sheets and room safety checks to provide monthly data for quality assurance and process improvement.
• Assist charge nurse in daily activities as necessary to control the milieu.
• Hold an all-staff meeting monthly and save minutes on hard drive for all employees to access.
• Maintain an educational binder for any new processes, forms, policies/procedures to train staff.

Required:

• R.N. BSN or Diploma with prior experience (5 years minimum)
• R.N. MSN within 2 years.
• 2 years of supervisory experience
• Must pass a background check
