Who We’re Looking For

Lifetime Home Remodeling is seeking a Payroll Auditor to support a one-time payroll audit project focused on California payroll compliance. This role will help ensure payroll records are accurate and aligned with California state and federal wage and hour laws, company policies, and payroll best practices.

The ideal candidate has experience with payroll auditing, payroll administration, and compliance, with strong attention to detail and knowledge of California payroll regulations. Experience with UKG Ready payroll and timekeeping is required.

This is a temporary, part-time, project-based position expected to last approximately one month, with up to 20 hours per week based on business needs. This assignment is not intended to become a regular full-time or permanent position.

What You’ll Be Doing

Payroll Auditing & Compliance:

  • Audit payroll records for accuracy and compliance with California labor laws, company policies, and payroll procedures
  • Review employee time records, overtime calculations, meal and rest break premiums, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, and final pay calculations
  • Review payroll tax withholdings, benefit deductions, garnishments, and other payroll transactions
  • Identify payroll discrepancies, errors, and compliance risks and recommend corrective actions
  • Review wage statements and payroll records for compliance with state and federal requirements

Reconciliation & Reporting:

  • Reconcile payroll reports with accounting records and general ledger entries
  • Prepare audit findings, supporting documentation, and summary reports
  • Document compliance risks and provide recommendations for corrective actions and process improvements
  • Prepare a final audit summary highlighting findings and opportunities for improvement

Cross-Functional Support:

  • Collaborate with Payroll, Human Resources, Finance, and management to resolve payroll issues
  • Assist with internal and external payroll audits by preparing documentation and responding to audit requests
  • Support payroll process improvements and documentation updates as needed

Confidentiality & Documentation:

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee payroll and personnel information
  • Ensure accurate documentation and reconciliation of payroll records and supporting schedules
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

What You Need

Experience: 2–3 years of payroll administration, payroll auditing, or payroll compliance experience

California Payroll Knowledge: Working knowledge of California payroll laws, wage and hour regulations, and payroll tax requirements

Technical Skills: Experience using UKG Ready payroll and timekeeping systems required; proficient in Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting

Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred

Analytical Skills: Strong analytical, organizational, reconciliation, and problem-solving abilities with excellent attention to detail

Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments

Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive employee and payroll information with discretion and professionalism

Preferred Qualifications: Experience conducting payroll audits or reconciliations and knowledge of California employment regulations. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus

Physical Requirements

Work Environment: Remote, hybrid, or onsite based on business needs

Computer Work: Ability to remain stationary and work at a computer for extended periods

Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and electronically

Physical Activity: Ability to occasionally move or lift up to 15 pounds, if required
