Behavioral Health Technician

LifeSync Malibu Healing Center is looking for experienced *behavioral health* technicians to join our team!

LifeSync is Malibu's premier drug and alcohol detox and residential center. It is the only physician owned and operated treatment center in Malibu. At LifeSync, our clients will get a customized program of care designed specifically by Geoffrey A. Booth, M.D. The Technician fulfills the assigned role as a part of the treatment team, maintaining the well-being of clients and integrity of the program. Provides client supervision and staff/unit support as assigned.

Major Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:

• Completes admission/intake procedures on new clients including all paperwork, room assignments, and initial orientation
• Conducts property searches of clients as required by program standards
• Performs urine drug screen testing of clients as required
• Performs Medication Call supervision as required
• Provides transportation services including patient transportation, donation pick-ups, agency errands, etc
• Attends in-service training and educational workshops
• Attends all required staff meetings
• Knowledge of drug and alcohol dependency, mental health, family systems and various recovery resources in the community such as Smart Recovery/ other resources in the community
• Develop and maintain individualized records of client progress and participation in treatment including admission and discharge, individual, group, family, vocational (both individual and group) literacy training and other occasions as appropriate
• Ability to write clear (and concise) statements, summarizing client’s feelings, expressions, resistance and response to their treatment plan; goals and objectives. Includes letters to referral agencies, courts/probation
• Ability to confront behavioral changes, identifies a crisis, and recognize when additional assistance is necessary
• Ability to recognize personal recovery issues that have an impact on job performance and interactions with clients
• Fully understands and maintains policies regarding professional ethics, including appropriate boundaries and patient confidentiality
• Ability to demonstrate respect for cultural and lifestyle diversities of clients and staff
• Ability to prepare for, and facilitate specialty programs
• Basic knowledge of referrals, both in and out of LifeSync Malibu Detox
• Working knowledge of the philosophy and approach Smart Recovery and 12 step program (if client would like 12 step program)
• Ability to communicate clearly, with clients, staff, peers, supervisors and non-center resources

Technician Competencies and Performance Expectations

 All Technicians are expected to:

• Document client intake and treatment progress
• Identify a crisis
• Facilitate an educational group
• Liaison with and refer to treatment team, inside and outside agencies
• Asses and report client behavioral changes
• Identify personal boundaries and be able to work as part of the treatment team
• Adhere to professional standards
• Recognize personal biases working within diverse populations

Prerequisite Qualifications: 

• High school diploma or equivalency. 
• One year of experience in the mental health field or educational progress towards degree in a mental health field. 
• Must have valid California driver’s license and liability insurance if driving personal vehicle on Center business.
• Vision, hearing, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination must be adequate for performance of job duties. 
• Able to sit at desk, use keyboard, write and physically perform other job duties. 
• Able to move about the facility to observe clients and staff.
• Specific qualifications may vary based on assignment. 

Upon hire, all onboarding technicians must provide valid documentation of the following on or before first day of work:

• TB test and results (documentation of TB testing performed within the last year with results are accepted)
• Health Screen/Work Clearance signed by a licensed physician
• CPR and First Aid certification
• Food Handlers Certification
• Motor Vehicle Record provided by driver license's issuing state's Department of Motor Vehicles
