What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Recovery Specialist - Corrections Based position at LifeSpring Health Systems?
LifeSpring Health Systems is seeking a full time Peer Recovery Specialist to fill a grant funded (through 2026) position located at the Dubois Community Corrections Center. A Peer Recovery Specialist is an individual who is in recovery from alcohol or substances and uses their personal and lived experience to help others in their recovery journey. This position will provide guidance, coaching and support to people in active use and throughout their individual recovery process to establish a recovery plan, increase positive social support, advocate on behalf of the client when necessary, and will support reentry planning across the criminal justice system. This position is position will partner with multiple agencies in Dubois County and provide support to individuals who are involved with the criminal justice system. The applicant for this position will need to have certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist or demonstrate willingness to enroll in the training at first opportunity. High school diploma or GED equivalent required, Bachelor's degree preferred.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Helps others overcome barriers to recovery, provides appropriate recovery information and resources in the community
- Provides support by mentoring, advocating, and motivating
- Connects individuals to treatment or provide them referrals when contacted by a referrals or individuals seeking help
- Acts as a liaison for collaboration with other parties, including community providers, friends, and families
- Help link consumers to recovery support meetings and activities inside and outside the facility
- Assist consumers in determining reasonable and holistic steps moving into recovery and identifying barriers to recovery goals.
- Assist consumers with identifying personal strengths in daily living and recovery skills.
- Shares experiences and knowledge about addiction and recovery appropriately
- Participate in regularly scheduled supervision meetings and ongoing personal recovery maintenance
- Complies with all mandatory reporting laws
- Abides by all federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to confidentiality and protected health information
- Perform other duties as assigned by (supervisor for this position)

- Accurate documentation within 24 hours of service.
- Timely and professional responses to consumers and non-consumers
- Demonstrates dependability with regular and reliable attendance
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Self-identify as a person in recovery from alcohol/substances and actively participating in a treatment or maintenance program.
- One of the following Peer Certifications is required. CPRC (formerly CAPRC); CHW/CRS; NCPS; NCPRSS
- Must be maintaining healthy recovery from mental illness and substance use.
- Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to meet communication requirements.
- Must hold a current driver’s license and valid insurance coverage, per general requirement of LifeSpring Health Systems
- Experience within the criminal justice system is preferred.
