POSITION SUMMARY: The Mental Health Specialist will provide support services to participants in outpatient programs. Supports youth with severe emotional/behavioral disorders and/or adults with severe mental illness. Position consists of assisting with the daily programming including monitoring of safety and engagement of clients, implementation and facilitation of skill building groups/activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate activities to teach behavioral regulation skills, independent living skills, emotional regulation skills and communication/social skills.
- Assist with monitoring all clients through the entirety of the time they are on site.
- Assist with monitoring and/or transportation of meals for the program, if applicable.
- Assist with cleaning up in and around the shared spaces of the program.
- Transporting clients or picking up supplies, as needed.
- Collaborate with Lifeskills staff to assist with clients recovery.
- Assure client choice and access to other services as needed.
- Conduct oneself morally, and ethically, serving as a positive role model.
- Utilize redirection and de-escalation techniques.
- Assist with maintaining schedule.
- Assure confidentiality of individual records and adhere to agency policy concerning HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain ongoing communication with supervisor and other team members, as needed.
- Complete and submit all required documentation accurately and timely.
- Attend scheduled staff trainings.
- Complete all training by required deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have reliable transportation with valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and active auto insurance that meets minimum state requirements. Must possess strong communication skills and be able to facilitate groups. Must be willing and able to work flexible hours at times. Criminal background checks to meet agency standards. High School diploma/GED required. Preference for those with experience working with youth that have severe emotional/behavioral disorders and/or adults with severe mental illnesses.
