Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical-Surgical (Med Surg) care to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of acute and chronic patient care, demonstrate proficiency in a wide range of nursing skills, and be committed to delivering exceptional patient-centered services. As an RN Med Surg, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive nursing assessments, administering treatments, and coordinating care across diverse medical settings. Duties

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed health histories to inform individualized care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments accurately, including injections, IV infusions, catheterizations, and wound suturing, following aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
  • Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth to document patient information meticulously and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Monitor patients' physiological status using advanced equipment such as ventilators, dialysis machines, and cardiac monitors; respond promptly to emergent situations including acute pain episodes or airway management needs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including physicians specializing in internal medicine, cardiology, ophthalmology, trauma medicine, or behavioral health—to coordinate comprehensive care plans.
  • Provide specialized care for diverse populations including geriatric patients in memory or long-term care settings, pediatric patients in PICU or neonatal units, and individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia.
  • Assist with diagnostic evaluations such as laboratory specimen collection, sonography procedures, or gastric lavage when necessary.
  • Educate patients and their families on treatment regimens, medication administration, discharge planning, and health coaching to promote ongoing wellness.
  • Ensure strict adherence to infection control practices and maintain sterile processing standards during procedures like ostomy care or sterile dressing changes.
  • Participate in case management activities including documentation of ICD-10 coding for billing purposes and compliance with NCQA standards for quality assurance.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development by staying current with advances in trauma medicine, infectious disease care, hospice & palliative medicine practices, and other specialized areas relevant to acute care environments.

Qualifications

  • Valid RN licensure with current state registration required; additional certifications such as BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) are preferred.
  • Proven experience in medical-surgical units within hospital settings; experience working in Level I or Level II trauma centers is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate documentation and order entry.
  • Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, and medical terminology essential for effective patient assessment and intervention.
  • Experience administering injections, IV insertions/infusions, phlebotomy, catheter care, and tube feeding techniques required.
  • Familiarity with complex clinical procedures including cardiac catheterization support or spinal taps is advantageous.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations including pediatrics (neonatal ventilator management), geriatrics (memory care), behavioral health patients, and individuals with disabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills for triage assessments and interdisciplinary collaboration; compassionate approach to patient education and family support.
  • Knowledge of infection control protocols and aseptic techniques critical for maintaining a safe clinical environment.
