Job Summary

The Fleet Mechanic plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the organization's fleet of vehicles, including ambulances and other various vehicles. They are responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles to ensure they meet safety standards and operational requirements. This position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on fleet vehicles, including oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on vehicles, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles to identify and address any potential safety concerns or maintenance needs.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot and diagnose vehicle problems accurately.
  • Perform repairs and replacements of faulty parts and components, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used and labor hours worked.
  • Assist in the preparation of vehicles for county and state inspections, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate with the Fleet Manager and other team members to prioritize and schedule repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Keep the work area clean and organized, following safety protocols and guidelines at all times.
  • Stay updated on new technologies and advancements in vehicle mechanics through training and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in automotive mechanics preferred.
  • Proven experience as a vehicle mechanic, preferably working with ambulances or similar emergency vehicles.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive systems, including engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic tools and equipment used for vehicle repair and maintenance.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics to perform repairs and replacements accurately.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks that may require bending, lifting, and working in confined spaces.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Compliance & Safety

  • Reviews paperwork for accuracy and correct process.
  • Must participate in scheduled and unscheduled onsite compliance audits.
  • Implements corrective/preventive measures as determined by the Corporate Compliance/Audit Committee.
  • Cooperates with Internal Audit, Compliance and Dispatch Operations on any recommendations and changes to compliance and legal workflow issues.
  • Takes swift and immediate action in accordance with Internal Audit and Corporate Compliance on any areas of concern. o Complies and enforces all policies and procedures.
  • Has successfully completed all required Compliance Training within the required time. o Has had no compliance-related corrective action during the current review period.
  • Participate in Safety and Risk training and activities.
  • Serves as a company representative promoting positive customer relationships through proactive involvement in public business and community activities.
  • Ensures a safe and productive work environment. Be a steward of safety, that you and your peers operate safely, in an environment free from danger and risk.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
