GENERAL SUMMARY
The Tissue Recovery Coordinator I (TRC I) is responsible for all activities related to the aseptic surgical recovery and safe packaging of tissues. This includes, but is not limited to, musculoskeletal and skin, supporting the mission, goals, and strategic plan of LifeCenter Northwest. In addition to the behavioral requirements, the TRC I is responsible for safeguarding the cultural and professional standards of the organization All these above actions are done pursuant to LifeCenter Northwest standard operating procedures (SOPs).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
General Responsibilities
- Tissue recovery duties depend upon experience level, and donor specifics. Duties may include:
- Aseptically recovers musculoskeletal tissues and skin from deceased donors with few errors
- Must be able to perform independent packing of supplies for cases, utilizing knowledge of processor criteria and age ranges.
- Assists in physical assessments, blood draws, and preparation of donor for recovery
- Utilizes sterile technique to efficiently perform back table duties, including packaging, labeling, culturing grafts and draping.
- Shares responsibility of driving or independently drives company vehicles as needed to and from recovery locations
- Act as preceptor within skillset for other tissue staff as needed
- All duties above must be performed in accordance with current Good Tissue Practices (GTP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), quality control practices, clean room protocols, FDA regulations and American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) Standards.
- This position requires regular, time-sensitive travel to and from case activity across the region. As such, the ability to independently and reliably commute between locations is essential to fulfilling the responsibilities of the role. Due to the nature of the work, which may involve urgent or unscheduled travel, personal driving capability is a critical operational need.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Reviews all relevant SOPs within their assigned due date, annually or as assigned, and provides documentation of completed training
- Participates in regularly scheduled training events, including in-person wet labs and online training in the learning management system.
- Attends all necessary meetings unless otherwise approved.
- Participates in continuing education or other training opportunities (on-site or remotely) as determined by the Director, Tissue Donation Services.
Facilities Responsibilities
- Assigned office days may be required.
- Repacking of totes and checking expiration dates of supplies, as well as inputting and receiving supply orders.
- Assists with stocking, transfers, and rotation of supplies between locations.
- May perform courier duties when needed for tissue and tissue products (e.g., cultures, blood., etc.)
- Performs routine and as-needed facility cleaning and maintenance.
- Works effectively with hospital OR staff to maintain good hospital relations and a cooperative work environment.
Other Responsibilities
- Participates in, and may lead, employee committees and events.
- Complies with applicable laws, regulations, and LifeCenter policies and procedures.
Supervision
- This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

Previous training in tissue recovery or similar clinical experience is desirable.
- Knowledge of anatomy and aseptic technique is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with team members. Demonstrates care, courtesy, and concern in all interactions, and establishes consistent, continuous care and respect for the donor.
- Provides culturally sensitive care including consideration for diverse cultures, ethnicity, language, community, and beliefs.
- Ability to multitask
- Must demonstrate operating knowledge of computers with a demonstrable, basic level skill (at minimum) with Outlook, Word, Excel, and other comparable software programs.
- Must be willing to work in an office and hospital setting, where exposure to bio-hazardous materials could occur.

Physical Activities/Requirements
- This position requires the ability to effectively operate phones, computers, and other office equipment.
- Vision abilities required by this position include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Travel is essential to this position; the employee must be prepared to travel by automobile or airplane and be available to mobilize withinthe operational standard of case notification. The employee must also meet TSA requirements for travel by plane.
- The individual must have the ability to communicate clearly in English to accurately convey information.
- This position is classified as a Category I employee. These employees have regular patient or donor contact or handle materials that could potentially spread infection. These employees have a potential for bloodborne pathogen exposure while performing their assigned job duties. Bloodborne pathogen protection is required.
- This position is required to follow hospital immunization, health screening, and background check requirements. Immunizations and tests will be provided by LifeCenter as required.
- The employee is required to move 75 pounds with or without assistance.
ANTICIPATED TIME COMMITMENT
This position is typically scheduled for a minimum of 74 hours per pay period and may require night, weekend work, holidays, and may have to work extended shifts. Some duties are required to be completed outside of call schedule.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree in health sciences is preferred.
- Training as a Surgical Technologist or experience in the medical field/sciences is preferred.
- Requires a valid driver’s license and access to an insured automobile for work-related functions at expected times.
- Must also possess valid state or federally issued identification suitable for air travel.

PAY RANGE
- TRC I: $30.22 - $43.83 Hourly
- TRC II: $34.03 - $49.35 Hourly
- TRC III: $36.50 - $52.94 Hourly

Where a candidate’s compensation falls within this range is based on several bona fide factors such as experience, tenure, and other specialized knowledge. This position is eligible for additional compensation to the base pay rate, in the form of Overtime, Extra Call Pay, Extra Call Worked, Overnight Differential, and Holiday Stipend Pay.
