The Monitor is responsible for supporting the Driver in providing safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation services to consumers during transit. This part-time role focuses on passenger supervision, safety monitoring, mobility assistance, and client support while ensuring consumers' well-being throughout transportation activities. The Monitor serves as an important member of the transportation team by helping maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all passengers.
Key Responsibilities
Consumer Supervision and Safety
- Continuously monitor assigned consumers during transportation to ensure their safety, comfort, and well-being.Ensure seatbelts and wheelchair restraints are secured.
- Provide one-on-one supervision and support to assigned consumers while also assisting other passengers as needed.
- Observe passenger behavior and identify situations that may pose a risk to the health, safety, or welfare of consumers.
- Intervene appropriately to prevent injury or unsafe situations while following established company procedures.
- Immediately notify the Driver of any concern, incident, or situation that may threaten the well-being of a consumer.
- Being in uniform and having a company ID
- Remain seated in designated monitoring locations to effectively observe and support consumers throughout transit.
Consumer Assistance and Customer Service
- Assist consumers with boarding and exiting vehicles safely.
- Provide courteous, respectful, and compassionate support to consumers during transportation.
- Help consumers with mobility needs, personal assistance requirements, and other reasonable accommodations during transit.
- Foster positive interactions that promote dignity, independence, and respect for all consumers.
- Respond professionally to consumer concerns and communicate appropriate information to transportation staff when necessary.
Transportation Support
- Support the Driver in maintaining orderly passenger transportation operations.
- Follow assigned transportation schedules, routes, and consumer support plans.
- Assist the Driver in ensuring compliance with transportation safety procedures and consumer care requirements.
- Help maintain a calm and supportive environment within the vehicle.
- Coordinate effectively with Drivers to ensure safe transportation and timely service delivery.
Incident Reporting and Communication
- Report significant incidents, behavioral concerns, safety issues, injuries, or emergencies promptly to the Driver and appropriate facility personnel.
- Communicate observations regarding consumer well-being to supervisors, facility staff, and transportation personnel as required.
- Follow established reporting procedures and documentation requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding consumer information in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
Training and Compliance
- Participate in required orientation, safety training, consumer support training, and other specialized training programs as assigned.
- Maintain documentation of required certifications and completed training programs.
- Follow company policies, transportation procedures, consumer care standards, and safety protocols.
- Accept supervisory guidance and perform assigned duties in accordance with established procedures.
- Stay informed of best practices related to passenger supervision, consumer safety, and transportation support services.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals requiring transportation assistance, including seniors and individuals with disabilities.
- Strong observation and situational awareness skills.
- Ability to remain attentive and focused during transportation assignments.
- Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions, policies, and established procedures.
- Ability to respond calmly and appropriately during emergencies or unexpected situations.
- Physical ability to assist consumers with boarding, exiting, and mobility-related needs as required.
- Ability to pass all required background screenings and compliance checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in healthcare, human services, transportation, education, caregiving, or customer service environments.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, behavioral health needs, mobility limitations, or special needs populations.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Training in crisis prevention, de-escalation techniques, or passenger assistance.
- Familiarity with non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) services.
