Director of Quality and Inpatient Operations

Las Vegas, NV | Inpatient Hospice Unit


General Position Description:

The Hospice Executive Director provides general oversight of administrative and clinical services, quality metrics, and acts as a liaison to executive leadership team. The Hospice Executive Director reports to the Vice President of Operations.



Role Expectations: 


The Director of Quality and Inpatient Operations provides leadership and oversight for clinical quality, inpatient hospice operations, and the delivery of exceptional patient- and family-centered care. This role ensures clinical processes, policies, and procedures are consistently implemented and maintained while supporting regulatory compliance, quality outcomes, and operational excellence.

This position provides leadership and support to physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members related to General Inpatient (GIP) hospice services, ensuring clinical practices align with hospice standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.

The Director oversees day-to-day inpatient operations, including nursing staffing, scheduling, workflow, and team performance, while providing guidance and support to the IPU Assistant Manager and other members of the interdisciplinary team. This leader works collaboratively with clinical and operational leadership to identify opportunities for improvement, strengthen patient care, and support organizational initiatives.


Requirements

 

Qualifications & Skills
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) within the state of practice; BSN preferred. 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and inspire others. 
  • Three (3) years of management experience in an acute care setting preferred. 
  • Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid regulations, Joint Commission standards, and ICD-10 coding. 
  • Proficient in symptom and medication management. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of healthcare finance and budget management. 
  • Ability to work independently while adhering to Infinity Hospice Care policies and procedures and Joint Commission standards. 
  • Strong customer service focus with a commitment to patient and family satisfaction. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.


 

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain high standards of professional and ethical practice in accordance with applicable regulatory and accrediting agencies. 
  • Ensure continuity and quality of patient care by developing staff assignments and schedules based on census, patient acuity, patient stability, and staff competency. 
  • Conduct audits to ensure daily MARs (Medication Administration Records) and CLIA requirements are accurate and complete. 
  • Oversee daily controlled substance/narcotic counts, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation and signatures. 
  • Lead ongoing quality improvement initiatives and collaborate with CQI nurses to conduct audits and implement process improvements. 
  • Coordinate personnel and resources to achieve quality outcomes, patient satisfaction, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with the fiscal budget. 
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of inpatient unit goals, objectives, policies, and standards of care. 
  • Assess staff development needs and provide opportunities for continuing education, professional development, coaching, and mentorship. 
  • Participate in hiring and staffing decisions in alignment with established staffing budgets; collaborate with the Onboarding Team to ensure an effective orientation to the IPU and computer systems. 
  • Foster strong communication and collaboration among team members to optimize patient care, maintain positive employee relations, and achieve inpatient unit objectives. 
  • Utilize feedback from CAHPS surveys to identify opportunities and implement improvements that enhance the patient and family experience. 
  • Oversee the care and services provided to patients receiving General Inpatient (GIP) level of care within the IPU, acute care settings, and other facilities. 
  • Respond to and follow up on GIP and IPU patient and family concerns or complaints, working to resolve service issues and improve the overall experience. 
  • Provide clinical direction and support to team members in coordinating patient care and resolving complex patient care concerns. 
  • Assist the Executive Director with the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, operational plans, and clinical protocols, including External GIP Admission Process Management and the Vent Program. 
  • Evaluate program outcomes and recommend changes to improve quality, efficiency, and patient care. 
  • Oversee completion of fire and safety checks, drills, and related requirements. 
  • Prepare for and participate in bi-weekly Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) meetings and daily stand-up meetings. 
  • Assign and oversee Charge Nurse responsibilities as appropriate. 
  • Perform the duties of the Director of Patient Care Services as requested. 
  • Provide direct patient care when necessary to support the needs of the inpatient unit. 
  • Perform additional duties and special assignments as directed by leadership.
