Duties
- Respond to assigned calls and transport requests in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
- Assess and monitor patients by obtaining vital signs, observing clinical condition, and gathering relevant medical history.
- Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) care and interventions in accordance with Massachusetts protocols, company policies, and EMT scope of practice.
- Safely transport patients for interfacility transfers, hospital admissions and discharges, dialysis appointments, medical appointments, and other approved transport needs.
- Operate ambulances and related vehicles in compliance with all traffic laws, safety standards, and company procedures.
- Document patient condition, treatment, observations, and transport details accurately and thoroughly.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold patient rights, dignity, and comfort throughout all interactions.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with dispatch, nurses, case managers, hospital staff, and receiving facilities.
- Assist with lifting, moving, and transferring patients using proper body mechanics and approved equipment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and well-stocked ambulance and work environment.
- Follow all infection control, safety, operational, and clinical procedures established by LifeCare Ambulance.
- Exercise sound judgment in fast-paced situations while remaining calm, respectful, and patient-focused.
Experience
- Current EMT certification/license in the state of practice required.
- Current CPR certification required.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
- Previous EMT experience in ambulance transport, emergency care, or a related patient care setting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of patient assessment, vital signs, documentation, and BLS-level care.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, company policies, and clinical protocols.
- Ability to work effectively in stressful situations while maintaining professionalism and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to interact respectfully with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Physical ability to bend, lift, pull, push, and move patients and equipment safely, including lifting up to 50 pounds or more with assistance as needed.
