Summary
Job Summary:
Under moderate supervision, the NEURODIAGNOSTIC TECH B prepares patient for and conducts various neurodiagnostic procedures such as Electroencephalograms, Evoked Potentials, and Transcranial Doppler exams. Collects patient information pertinent to the interpretation of the tests and determines proper procedures for testing.
Responsibilities
- Performs standard EEGs such as wake and sleep, nasopharyngeal, bedside, isolation, pediatric, neonatal, electrocerebral inactivity evaluations, etc. , according to departmental procedures.
- Adapts methods and instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on history, clinical observations and EEG findings.
- Utilizes the International 10-20 Electrode Placement system to measure, mark and apply electrodes to the predetermined positions on the patient's scalp Achieves impedances at or below 5 K ohms.
- Compiles data on patient's neurologic status and clinical history which may be pertinent to interpretation of neurodiagnostic procedure from the chart, patient or family, etc.
- Explains the testing procedures to the patient, family members, etc. Enters patient data into the appropriate electronic log. Acquires patient history by interviewing patient, family members, or caretakers.
- Performs non-invasive neurovascular studies including Transcranial Doppler examinations. Positions patient and explains procedure. Insolates vessels of the Circle of Willis. Monitors patient for emboli detection. Attaches standard and current inducing electrodes and records evoked potentials (computer averaged electrical responses) to visual, auditory and somatosensory stimuli within the nervous system. Ensures technical quality of recordings by making adjustments as necessary.
- Performs OAE and / or ABR screening on infants to assess hearing. Completes documentation of test results and forwards that information to the pediatrician. Forwards testing results to be entered into the state database.
- Provides supportive patient care and makes detailed observations of clinical manifestations during seizures and other patient emergency situations.
- Takes protective measures when patient is having generalized seizure; assure clear airway by rolling pt to side, remove objects that may cause injury to patient.
- Performs various clerical duties. Completes both technical and professional bills for each procedure. Assembles a chart for patient for each procedure. Distributes patient charts to the interpreting physician. Assists in purging files.
Experience Required:
1-3 years relevant experience
Education
Associate's degree in Electroneurodiagnostic Technology or equivalent.
Licenses And Certification Required:
Basic Life Support
Preferred:
Registered EEG Technologist
Credential Note:
Must be Eligible for certification by ABRET
