General Description
The LCS Preschool Substitute Teacher works under the supervision of the LCS Preschool Director. The Preschool Substitute Teacher is responsible for following the classroom procedures developed by the Lead Teacher and assisting in the daily care and routines of the preschool children.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Follow Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services sanitation guidelines in maintaining a clean and safe classroom environment
2. Implement daily care routines and help guide classroom activities
3. Provide responsive care to all children by adapting daily care routines based on individual needs
4. Provide close and ongoing supervision of the children to ensure each child’s health and safety
5. Demonstrate cultural competency and respect for each child’s background by incorporating the cultural, linguistic, and familial values into the childcare program
6. Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self-esteem and self-discipline
7. Assist the classroom teacher in keeping record of ongoing development evaluation of children
8. Collaborate with the lead teacher and other staff members in meeting each child’s needs
9. Help maintain accurate, complete, and timely records including daily meal and attendance records for the Child and Adult
Care Food Program
10. Report any signs of child abuse to supervisor and/or child abuse hotline
11. Report classroom concerns to supervisor in a timely manner
12. Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities and obtain a minimum of 12 approved training hours per year
13. Follow all rules and regulations in the staff handbook and licensing rules for childcare centers
14. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
1. High School diploma or equivalent with prior childcare experience preferred.
2. A creative team building approach to leadership
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
4. Demonstrate time management, communication, and problem-solving skills
5. Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail
6. Ability to multitask and work under pressure
7. Ability to lift 50lbs
8. 80% sitting, 20% standing or walking
