PURPOSE

Operate radio base station; NCIC/GCIC computer; CAD system; maintain records; answer phones; clerical work; shift work.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Answers 911/Emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire and emergency medical services (EMS) response and codes the same.  
2. Dispatch radio calls for Campus Assistance.  
3. Maintains radio and case number log book.
4. Prepares and maintains some departmental correspondence; department statistics, weekly activities, lists, incidents reports.
5. Accesses a variety of computer information systems and databases to retrieve, verify, and enter data. 
6. Testifies in court. 
7. Gives lifesaving and pre-arrival instructions to callers in emergency situations for which he or she has been trained.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

Education, Training and/or Experience

1. A High School Diploma (or equivalent) is required.  
2. Two years of successful police, public safety or private company dispatcher experience.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

1. Georgia P.O.S.T. Communications Officer Certification, or able to obtain within 6 months from date of hire.
2. GCIC/NCIC Terminal Operator Certification. 
3. Current CPR Certification or must obtain recertification within 90 days from date of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Five or more years of successful police or public safety dispatcher experience.
2. Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certificate.
3. Georgia P.O.S.T. Communications Officer Certification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business and radio equipment.
2. Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collects, compiles, compares, and prepares work documents, set-up and maintain work files.
3. Must be able to lift between 40 lbs individually and up to 60 lbs with assistance; retrieving and placing materials on high shelves and on floor-level shelves.
4. Positions in this class typically require: reaching, extensive sitting, and grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. 

WORKING CONDITIONS  

1. This position may require: 24 hour on call assignment, overtime, or working weekends, holidays, or various hours (e.g. 10-hour, 12-hour) and rotating shifts.
2. May be subjected to poor ventilation, workspace restrictions, intense noises, disruptive people, and excessive high levels of stress for extended periods due to the nature of emergency call center activity.
