GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the Online Student Support Specialist for SAS is to provide administrative support and Student care/support for online programs in our School of Arts and Sciences (SAS). This position serves the Academic Office by collaborating with the Dean of SAS & Department Directors to; a) provide high quality services to help students succeed and have an excellent program experience, b) provide administrative support to directors, faculty, and other duties to serve online programs. The role will collaborate with different areas such registrar’s office, academic office, marketing, admissions, and others to serve online students well. Responsibilities include support with bi-annual graduate MA residencies for SAS programs and working with the Dean and department directors/chairs who oversee the programs. Reports to the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and works with the Registrar and Faculty Directors on a regular basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Reports to the Dean of Arts and Sciences.
- Collaborates with Department/Program Directors in planning the functions of services provided to their students.
- Facilitate the online orientation and welcome of new students in online degrees in SAS
- Supports all aspects of the graduate on-campus residencies (January/July) with STM Directors, Dean and Enrollment Department.
- Provides retention and persistence support to students under his/her care by tracking progress on Moodle (LMS) and providing needed support.
- Coaching and supporting students towards successful completion of their study programs.
- Collaborate with Academic Office Specialist to ensure management of the Moodle LMS for SAS. Creation/copying of course shells and enrollment of students in their appropriate Moodle courses.
- Assists SAS Dean and Directors with new faculty onboarding and Moodle teaching skills (orientation).
- Communicates teaching schedules and expectations to adjunct faculty in SAS online programs.
- Work with instructors to ensure outlines are updated for each class and contain all required elements.
- Review textbook with faculty and communicate textbook selections to Academics for updating in MBS and other areas.
- Conduct course evaluation distribution, collection, & review.
- Assist Academic Office in evaluating and revising course quality and instructional engagement.
- Part of the Arts and Sciences team to provide support in other events that may require such as baccalaureate, commencement, Welcome chapel, faculty events, etc.
- Complete other projects assigned by Dean of SAS.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A vibrant Christian faith and worldview consistent with the LPU’s Statement of faith.
- Minimum B.A. degree and experience, MA preferred.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, pastors, faculty, staff, & leaders (solid interpersonal, public address, written/verbal communication skills are a must)
- Strong attention to detail, organizational and administrative skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects/deadlines and work well under pressure.
- Proficient working computer knowledge: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Typing 50
- Intermediate to Advanced Excel Skills (working with formulas and graphs)
- Some Learning Management System (LMS) experience. Moodle a plus!
- Excellent English skills and writing ability.
NOTE: Though not required, this position is optionally eligible for appointment as a Foursquare minister under certain conditions. If appointed as a minister, the employee will be available to provide pastoral care and prayer. In addition, s/he may be called upon to perform sacerdotal duties upon request of the University.
