Job Overview
The Adult Career Readiness Coach and Job Placement Specialist plays a vital role in empowering adults served by Life on Purpose Detroit to discover meaningful career pathways and achieve sustainable employment. This role blends individualized coaching, group facilitation, and direct job placement support, while maintaining compliance with Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) and other partner requirements. Success in this position requires compassion, creativity, and the ability to meet participants where they are—helping them build confidence, overcome barriers, and step into purpose-driven employment.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate one-on-one coaching sessions and small group workshops focused on career readiness, confidence building, and workplace skills.
- Guide participants in exploring career pathways, developing resumes, practicing interviews, and applying for jobs.
- Build employer and community relationships to support job placement opportunities.
- Provide ongoing retention support and coaching to ensure participants sustain employment success.
- Maintain accurate documentation, communication, and reporting aligned with MRS and partner requirements.
- Track participant progress, submit outcome reports, and identify opportunities to improve program delivery.
- Contribute to a supportive, inclusive, and purpose-driven team culture at Life on Purpose Detroit.
Qualifications
- Background in coaching, career counseling, workforce development, or social work.
- Familiarity with MRS guidelines and workforce development systems (preferred).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel to in-person sessions and community partner sites as needed.
- Capability to sit, stand, and facilitate workshops for extended periods.
- Ability to navigate Zoom, LMS systems, and Tech forward platforms
- Ability to engage diverse participants with creativity, empathy, and patience.
- Strong understanding of employment barriers, inclusive workplace practices, and trauma-informed approaches.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and documentation skills.
Education and Experience
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Education, Counseling, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 2 years of experience in workforce development, case management, or coaching roles.
Work Schedule
This is a part-time contractor position. Some evening or weekend hours may be required depending on program and participant needs. Reliable transportation is required for in-person sessions and community events.
