We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Short-Term Upper School Spanish Teacher to join our educational team for a temporary assignment. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for language instruction, a strong background in curriculum development, and experience engaging high school students in a supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging Spanish language curricula aligned with educational standards and learning objectives.
- Design lesson plans that incorporate diverse instructional strategies, including the use of learning technology and instructional design principles.
- Deliver instruction that fosters language acquisition, cultural understanding, and literacy development among students.
- Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations, including standardized testing and informal assessments.
- Provide individualized support and tutoring to students requiring additional assistance in language skills or related subjects such as linguistics or creative writing.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and participation in accordance with school policies.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively using positive behavior management techniques to create a conducive learning environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, assessment strategies, and school-wide initiatives such as literacy education or special education programs.
- Engage in ongoing professional development related to higher education teaching practices, research, and the latest developments in language instruction.
- Support school activities, including academic advising, library services integration, or extracurricular programs related to journalism or creative writing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Education, Linguistics, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Prior classroom experience teaching upper school students in a private or public school setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, lesson planning, and instructional design tailored for high school learners.
- Strong knowledge of AP style, Chicago Manual of Style, proofreading techniques, and standardized testing preparation.
- Experience working with diverse learners, including those requiring special education accommodations or Montessori approaches.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to mentor students effectively and collaborate with colleagues.
- Proficiency with learning technology tools and resources to enhance instruction and student engagement.
- Organizational skills necessary for managing multiple classes, assessments, and administrative tasks efficiently.
