Responsibilities
- Perform patient intake procedures, including collecting medical histories and documenting symptoms accurately.
- Measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates to assist clinicians in diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring their comfort throughout visits.
- Assist healthcare providers with clinical tasks such as administering medications, wound care, or basic life support when necessary.
- Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment including X-ray machines and other imaging tools used in outpatient or hospital settings.
- Support medical documentation by coding diagnoses with ICD codes, updating electronic health record (EHR) systems efficiently, and ensuring accuracy for billing purposes.
- Manage medical supplies inventory, sterilize equipment, and maintain a clean clinical environment adhering to safety standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in diverse settings such as geriatrics, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), OR (Operating Room), or Level I/II trauma centers to deliver comprehensive patient care.
- Provide excellent patient service by addressing questions, coordinating appointments, and ensuring a positive experience during every visit.
- Assist with procedures across various specialties including internal medicine, urgent care, hospital medicine, medical-surgical units, or emergency departments.
- Support administrative duties such as scheduling follow-up visits and managing patient records to streamline clinic operations.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Medical Assistant in outpatient clinics or hospital environments; experience in dermatology, emergency medicine, or Level I/II trauma centers is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology to effectively support clinical workflows.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required; additional certifications related to X-ray operation or medication administration are a plus.
- Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems for accurate documentation and billing processes.
- Strong understanding of ICD coding standards for diagnosis documentation.
- Ability to perform clinical tasks such as vital signs measurement, specimen collection, medication administration, and assisting with diagnostic procedures like X-rays or other imaging techniques.
- Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach to diverse populations including geriatrics and pediatric patients in PICU settings.
- Experience working within hospital environments—particularly Level I trauma centers—or outpatient clinics across various specialties is preferred.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in fast-paced settings such as urgent care or emergency departments while maintaining attention to detail.
- Flexibility to adapt to different clinical environments including inpatient units or outpatient clinics requiring strong teamwork and communication skills.
