Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides supervision, support, and structure for residents in a residential treatment setting. Staff are responsible for maintaining safety, enforcing program expectations, supporting healthy coping skills, and helping create a consistent and therapeutic environment for residents.
Behavioral Health Technicians work closely with the clinical and case management teams to support resident stability, accountability, and progress within the program.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise residents and maintain a safe, structured environment
- Enforce program rules, expectations, schedules, and house guidelines consistently
- Monitor resident behavior and report concerns to supervisors or clinical staff
- Support residents in utilizing healthy coping skills and emotional regulation techniques
- Assist with conflict resolution and use approved de-escalation strategies during crisis situations
- Provide appropriate supervision during meals, groups, recreation, transportation, and community activities
- Maintain professional boundaries and model appropriate behavior
- Complete required documentation including shift notes, incident reports, and behavioral observations
- Communicate effectively with Program Director and other staff
- Conduct room checks, safety checks, and facility monitoring as required
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness, organization, and overall structure within the residence
- Transport residents as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience working in behavioral health, residential treatment, mental health or substance abuse preferred
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and consistent in high-stress situations
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to establish and maintain healthy boundaries
- Basic computer and documentation skills
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record preferred
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Crisis intervention or de-escalation training
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles
- Experience working in residential or behavioral health settings
Schedule
- Full-time and part-time positions available (Swing and Graves)
- Day, swing, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required
Work Environment
This position works in a residential behavioral health setting and may involve exposure to challenging behaviors, emotionally stressful situations, and crisis intervention scenarios.
