Duties
- Deliver direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorder, by assisting with daily activities, personal hygiene, and community integration.
- Implement behavioral therapy strategies and applied behavior analysis techniques to promote positive behaviors and skill development.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and participate in diagnostic evaluations to tailor individualized care plans.
- Collect and document data accurately on behavior patterns, progress notes, and medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and proper recordkeeping.
- Assist with intake procedures by gathering relevant medical history, documenting observations, and supporting initial evaluations.
- Support individuals during medical appointments by understanding medical terminology, assisting with medication management, and ensuring proper documentation of medical records.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—including special education professionals, behavioral health specialists, and healthcare providers—to develop effective intervention plans.
- Maintain a safe environment by adhering to safety protocols, conducting routine safety checks, and responding promptly to emergencies or behavioral incidents.
- Foster a supportive atmosphere that encourages independence while providing necessary supervision and guidance.
- Participate in ongoing training sessions related to behavioral health practices, medical documentation standards, and new therapeutic techniques.
Requirements
- Prior experience working with children or individuals with disabilities is highly preferred; familiarity with working specifically with people on the autism spectrum is a plus.
- Knowledge of behavioral therapy methods and applied behavior analysis (ABA) techniques is essential for effective support delivery.
- Strong skills in data collection, documentation of medical records, and understanding of HIPAA compliance are required.
- Ability to perform patient assessments accurately and assist during diagnostic evaluations or intake processes.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members, families, and healthcare providers.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology and experience handling medical documentation is advantageous.
