Position Description:
The Construction Heavy Equipment Operator must have the training and knowledge to operate and maintain an excavator, dozer, blade, asphalt pulverizer (grinder), and backhoe. The Heavy Equipment Operator must be able to excavate to grade, finish doze to grade, finish blade to grade, pulverize asphalt, and remove and replace culverts and pipes. The Heavy Equipment Operator must also have the knowledge to operate and maintain the light duty construction equipment. All operators are required to conduct their own equipment safety checks daily. The Heavy Equipment Operator must conduct himself and operate his equipment in a safe manner, at all times, to promote safety for everyone.
Expectations:
Ability to follow instructions related to plans to develop the job site
Reports directly to the Construction Foreman and the Construction Superintendent
Work under safe conditions following OSHA, SD-DOT, MSHA and Lien Transportation Co policies and procedures
Ability to inspect equipment on a daily basis and report any necessary repairs
Perform daily maintenance on equipment as needed

Construction Heavy Equipment Operator Requirements:
Knowledge and experience in the construction industry
Oral and written communication skills
Basic knowledge of the mechanics of the equipment

While performing the responsibilities of the Construction Heavy Equipment Operator, the employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, with the ability to lift up to 100 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical equipment and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Expect exposure to extreme weather conditions outside of the company office.
