Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Complex Litigation Attorney role based in Smithtown, NY. The attorney will manage a diverse caseload from intake through resolution, including drafting pleadings, motions, and briefs, handling discovery, and preparing case strategies aligned with client business objectives. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting legal research, taking and defending depositions, arguing motions in court, and participating in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, and trials. The attorney will interact directly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and co-counsel, providing clear risk assessments and recommendations. The role also involves collaborating with the firm’s litigation team, leveraging legal technology and AI tools, and contributing to process improvements and knowledge sharing within the firm.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in substantive and procedural Law relevant to complex commercial, employment, real estate, and related litigation, with the ability to apply legal principles to sophisticated fact patterns.
- Demonstrated experience drafting and arguing Motions, including dispositive motions, discovery motions, and applications for injunctive or other emergent relief.
- Comfort and experience appearing in Courts and administrative forums, including state and federal trial courts, with effective oral advocacy and courtroom presence.
- Hands-on experience with civil Trials, including trial preparation, witness examination, evidentiary issues, and collaboration with experts and support teams.
- Proficiency in conducting and defending Depositions, including preparing witnesses, managing complex testimony, and creating clear records for motion practice and trial.
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar admission in New York; admission in additional jurisdictions (e.g., NJ, CT, CO) is a plus.
