POSITION:  ELA Instructional Coach 9-12

 

RESPONSIBLE TO: Curriculum Director

JOB GOAL: To provide professional development for teachers and to provide them with

additional support needed to implement various instructional programs and practices. To provide leadership for the K-6 literacy plan.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • State of Ohio teaching license / certificate ELA 7-12
  • Master’s degree (MA) or equivalent; MA in reading preferred
  • Three years of successful teaching experience
  • Extensive training / experience in literacy (examples include: Science of reading, dyslexia, ODE Reading Specialist Endorsement)
  • Training and experience with mentoring and coaching adult learners
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Facilitate the implementation of the local literacy plan and literacy frameworks .
  2. Ensure teachers are using the curriculum maps and covering all ELA standards using the District adopted curriculum.
  3. Provide professional development on implementing the components of the literacy plan.
  4. Work with teachers / administrators in implementation and support of the 7-12 literacy plan.
  5. Work with the building principals / teacher leaders to coordinate, deliver and provide appropriate professional development and coaching.
  6. Facilitate external professional development based on district and individual teacher needs.
  7. Effectively communicate accurate and up to date information to teachers, principals and students that will enhance student learning.
  8. Create a positive atmosphere that promotes cooperation and collaboration with administration, coworkers and students.
  9. Continuously monitor, track and analyze student achievement data in order to identify needed support and strategies.
  10. Work closely with teachers and administration to strategically create and implement a plan to increase student achievement in ELA.
  11. Facilitate collaboration vertically and horizontally with all ELA teachers.
  12. Facilitate use of student data to analyze deficiencies at 9-12 to close achievement gaps.
  13. Hold meetings with grade level teachers and administrators as needed
  14. Model lessons for teachers, observe teachers, fidelity checks and coach teachers as part of ongoing coaching cycles.
  15. Assist in the MTSS process for struggling students in ELA to help provide strategies and interventions.

  • Frequent work that may extend beyond the normal workday

  • Many situations that require hand motion, e.g. computer keyboard, typing and writing.
  • Consistent requirements to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read and speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel and climb and stoop.
  • Consistent requirements to lift, carry, push and pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 50 pounds.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of these responsibilities will be evaluated by the Curriculum Director in collaboration with the Superintendent.
