Database Administrator Responsibilities
- Administer, test, and implement computer databases
- Coordinate changes to computer databases
- Implement security measures to safeguard computer databases
- Create and manage database schemes, tables, procedures and permissions
- Execute database mirroring, backups, failover, replication, and disaster recovery tasks
- Restore and recover corrupted tables or databases
- Implement database security
- Install upgrades and patches
- Create shell scripts for task automation
- Proactively install, test, evaluate and recommend new database technologies
- Communicate and collaborate regularly with the staff in order to ensure database integrity, security and optimization
- Analyze and maintain capacity and performance requirements
- Work with Senior technical resources (architects, Senior DBAs) to document and design database architecture for current and new applications
- Clearly and effectively report on the progress of projects assigned
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance
- Identify database requirements by interviewing customers; analyzing department applications, programming, and operations; evaluating existing systems and designing proposed systems
- Maintain database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters; implementing new releases; completing maintenance requirements; evaluating computer operating systems and hardware products
- Write and maintain database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
- Develop, manage, and test database backup and recovery plans
- Manage access and permissions on databases
- Commission and install new applications and customizing existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose
- Maintain quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards
- Execute professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies
- Develop and maintain custom SSRS reports that report on data from various applications.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology preferred; or equivalent work experience
- Must have extensive knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server versions 2005 / 2008 R2 / 2012/ 2016 / 2019
- Must have some experience administering Windows Server 2008/2012/2019 Operating Systems
- Must have experience with scripting (T-SQLs, PowerShell, database scripting, etc.)
- Certifications for Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration is a plus
- Experience with optimizing database deployments in Cloud environments is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Learn quickly when facing new problems; a versatile learner who is open to change; analyzes both successes and failures for clues to improvement
- Critical thinking skills to recognize patterns and anomalies in data and arrive at new conclusions based upon findings
