Summary

Under the supervision of the R&D Manager/Engineers, this position will work closely with other R&D personnel, manufacturing, quality, and maintenance teams to provide testing, characterization, benchmarking, and validation support for LiCAP's battery materials, battery electrodes, battery cells, and energy storage technologies.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting routine and advanced testing of battery materials and components, collecting and analyzing data, maintaining laboratory equipment, and supporting the development of new test methods and procedures. Product performance, reliability, and safety are critical to LiCAP's success, and the Battery Test Technician will play an important role in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and quality of all testing activities.

Together with other R&D personnel, the Battery Test Technician will be expected to follow project schedules, execute test plans, document results, and support continuous improvement initiatives. Effective communication, planning, organization, and attention to detail are required.

Responsibilities

• Perform battery material, electrode, cell, and module testing according to established procedures and test plans.

• Prepare and characterize battery materials, electrodes, and cells using standard laboratory techniques.

• Operate and maintain battery test equipment, cyclers, environmental chambers, impedance analyzers, and material characterization equipment.

• Create, improve, validate, and maintain test procedures, work instructions, and laboratory documentation.

• Execute electrochemical testing, including cycle life, rate capability, impedance, calendar life, safety, and abuse testing.

• Conduct physical and mechanical testing of electrodes and battery materials, including density, porosity, adhesion, conductivity, thickness, and tensile strength measurements.

• Accurately collect, organize, analyze, and report test data in a timely manner.

• Assist in root cause investigations, product validation, benchmarking studies, and failure analysis activities.

• Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate test results and recommendations.

• Maintain laboratory inventory, supplies, consumables, and testing equipment.

• Support laboratory organization, calibration activities, safety compliance, and preventive maintenance programs.

• Provide feedback and recommend improvements to testing methods, equipment, and product performance.

• Work in other R&D areas as needed, including equipment setup, fixture design, prototype assembly, and process development activities.

Education, Knowledge, and Working Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience in battery testing, materials testing, laboratory operations, quality testing, or related technical roles.

• Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Electrochemistry, or a related technical discipline preferred.

• Experience with lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries, ultracapacitors, or other energy storage technologies is preferred.

• Experience operating battery cyclers, environmental chambers, impedance analyzers, and laboratory characterization equipment is highly desirable.

• Knowledge of battery materials, electrodes, cell construction, and electrochemical testing methods is preferred.

• Experience developing and following standard operating procedures and test methods.

• Strong technical problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment.

• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis software. Experience with Minitab is a plus.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Must be a self-starter with strong initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
