Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled CNC Operator to operate, and maintain Swiss-style CNC lathes (e.g., Citizen, Tsugami) and Mills to produce precision components for high-volume production environments. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Swiss turning centers and a strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and quality standards. This position is for night shift specifically. 4 PM-2:30 AM
Key Responsibilities:
- Setup and Operation:
- Setup and operate CNC lathes and Mills according to engineering drawings, setup sheets, and work instructions.
- Perform program adjustments and minor edits using G-code or proprietary machine software.
- Change tools, offsets, and bar stock as required.
- Inspection and Quality Assurance:
- Use precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, comparators, etc.) to inspect parts and ensure compliance with tight tolerances (typically ±0.0002").
- Document in-process and final inspection results in accordance with ISO or internal quality systems.
- Perform and document first article inspections (FAI) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) checks as required.
- Preventive Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance on machines including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.
- Notify maintenance or supervisor of any mechanical or tooling issues promptly.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of production quantities, downtime, scrap, and quality issues.
- Update job travelers and ensure proper documentation follows each job.
- Team Collaboration:
- Communicate with engineers, programmers, and quality personnel to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Train or assist in training junior operators as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or apprenticeship preferred.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of hands-on experience operating Swiss-style CNC machines or milling machines.
- Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical drawings and blueprints.
- Strong knowledge of precision measuring instruments and tolerance requirements.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems is a plus.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Experience (Not Required but a Plus):
- Experience with multi-spindle Swiss lathes or machines equipped with live tooling and sub-spindles.
- Understanding of tool wear and insert life optimization.
- Experience working with difficult-to-machine materials (e.g., titanium, Inconel, stainless steel).
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software or G-code editing.
- Previous work in a medical, aerospace, or defense manufacturing environment.
