Description

The Quality Engineering Technician supports quality engineering activities for RF and microwave products used in aerospace and defense applications. This role ensures compliance with AS9100, customer requirements, and internal quality systems while supporting manufacturing, supplier quality, auditing, and continuous improvement initiatives. The technician works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Program teams to ensure product conformity and process stability across the product lifecycle.

Product & Process Quality Support

  • Support quality engineering activities for RF/microwave components, assemblies, and subsystems.
  • Perform first article inspections (FAI) per AS9102 requirements.
  • Assist with in-process and final inspections to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and workmanship standards (IPC, MIL-STD, customer requirements).
  • Support investigation and documentation of nonconformances, including root cause and corrective action activities.
  • Review and verify manufacturing travelers, inspection plans, and test documentation, as required.

AS9100 & Quality Management System (QMS)

  • Support compliance with AS9100/ISO 9001 quality management system requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving quality procedures, work instructions, and records keeping systems.
  • Support internal audits and external audits (customer, internal, supplier, and regulatory).
  • Ensure proper document control and traceability in accordance with aerospace and defense requirements, as well as internal QMS requirements.

Supplier Quality & Incoming Inspection

  • Perform or support incoming inspection of supplier-provided materials, RF components, and subassemblies.
  • Work with engineering to develop incoming inspection criteria and communicate those requirements to the inspection team.
  • Review supplier documentation including certificates of conformance (CofC), test data, and material traceability.
  • Assist with supplier quality audits, assessments, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Support supplier corrective action requests (SCARs) and verification of effectiveness.

Auditing & Compliance

  • Participate in internal process and product audits.
  • Assist Quality Engineers during customer and regulatory audits.
  • Support audit preparation, findings documentation, and corrective action closure.
  • Monitor compliance to internal procedures and industry standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Works with Engineers on validation, deployment, and training of new tooling, test equipment, and other hardware that are helpful in assuring quality and improving efficiencies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
  • Collect and analyze quality data (yield, defect trends, audit findings).
  • Participate in root cause analysis activities (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, basic FMEA support).
  • Assist in implementation and verification of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Requirements

Technical & Quality Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of AS9100 and aerospace quality systems.
  • Familiarity with RF/microwave manufacturing processes, materials, and test methods.
  • Understanding of aerospace documentation, traceability, and configuration control.
  • Knowledge of inspection tools, measurement techniques, and basic metrology.
  • Experience with IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-620) and/or MIL-STD workmanship standards preferred.

Personal Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Person
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, with a strong preference for enrollment in continuing education.
  • Experience in first article inspections (FAI), preference for AS9102 experience
  • Understanding of technical drawings and SCD’s
  • Basic Microsoft Suite experience
  • CMM experience preferred.
  • IPC-610 certification preferred.
  • GD&T knowledge a plus
  • Internal auditing experience a plus
