The Structural Design Engineer will support the design and analysis of bridges, structures, and transportation-related civil infrastructure. Work spans heavy civil construction, roadway structures, and structural components for public and private sector clients. This role includes hands-on design, technical calculations, drafting, and cross-functional project coordination.
Responsibilities
- Design bridge and structural projects under the guidance or supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer.
- Perform structural analysis, studies, calculations, and prepare engineering work plans in compliance with project requirements, AASHTO LRFD, and applicable engineering standards.
- Support civil and structural design for heavy civil construction projects involving bridges, roadway structures, culverts, retaining structures, and transportation infrastructure.
- Prepare drawings, technical documents, specifications, and cost estimates using AutoCAD or similar tools.
- Conduct quality control reviews of self-performed work to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Provide technical support and coordination with internal departments, project teams, construction managers, and subcontractors.
- Participate in field visits, site investigations, or construction-phase support as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited Civil or Structural Engineering program.
- Minimum of one (1) year of structural design experience
- Experience designing bridges, civil structures, transportation projects and/or heavy civil infrastructure a plus.
- EIT certification desired; Professional Engineer (PE) license a plus
- Proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with structural analysis software (e.g., STAAD, MIDAS, LEAP, LARSA, SAP2000, or equivalent) is valued.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate professionally with subcontractors, internal staff, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Highly organized with strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and good decision-making skills.
