A well established, reputable civil & structural firm with excellent leadership, low turnover, and a stable workload is seeking to add a Structural Design Engineer with a focus on bridge design and civil infrastructure. The firm is open to candidates ranging from EIT-level engineers with a year or more of experience to mid-level licensed Professional Engineers (PE). Responsibilities, independence, and project ownership will be aligned with experience level.

The Structural Design Engineer will support the design and analysis of bridges, structures, and transportation-related civil infrastructure. Work spans heavy civil construction, roadway structures, and structural components for public and private sector clients. This role includes hands-on design, technical calculations, drafting, and cross-functional project coordination.

Responsibilities

• Design bridge and structural projects under the guidance or supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer.
• Perform structural analysis, studies, calculations, and prepare engineering work plans in compliance with project requirements, AASHTO LRFD, and applicable engineering standards.
• Support civil and structural design for heavy civil construction projects involving bridges, roadway structures, culverts, retaining structures, and transportation infrastructure.
• Prepare drawings, technical documents, specifications, and cost estimates using AutoCAD or similar tools.
• Conduct quality control reviews of self-performed work to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Provide technical support and coordination with internal departments, project teams, construction managers, and subcontractors.
• Participate in field visits, site investigations, or construction-phase support as needed.
  
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited Civil or Structural Engineering program.
• Minimum of one (1) year of structural design experience
• Experience designing bridges, civil structures, transportation projects and/or heavy civil infrastructure a plus.
• EIT certification desired; Professional Engineer (PE) license a plus
• Proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with structural analysis software (e.g., STAAD, MIDAS, LEAP, LARSA, SAP2000, or equivalent) is valued.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate professionally with subcontractors, internal staff, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Highly organized with strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and good decision-making skills.
