Senior Controls Engineer – PLCs, HMI, Robotics

On-site in the Chattanooga Tennessee Area

Full-time, Permanent | $130,000–$170,000 Bonus

Are you a seasoned Controls Engineer who wants to work with a technology-driven manufacturer? This role centers on designing and implementing advanced control systems that blend traditional PLC, HMI, and MES controls with emerging technologies. While experience with machine learning analytics and intelligent robotics is a bonus, the core focus is on delivering robust, scalable automation solutions.

Your Responsibilities

• Develop PLC, HMI, and AI-integrated control systems for bespoke automation and robotic platforms in industrial manufacturing.
• Program Allen-Bradley (RSLogix) and Siemens (Step 7) PLCs to manage precision motion, safety, and process control.
• Write real-time software using Ladder Logic, Function Block, and structured text.
• Integrate robotics with vision-guided control (OpenCV), sensor fusion, and force feedback.
• Connect sensors, microcontrollers, drives, HMIs, and cloud- or edge-connected devices.
• Lead R&D projects across software, electronics, and mechanical systems.
• Build diagnostic tools, simulators, and feedback loops to optimize system performance.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to validate technical solutions.

Your Qualifications

• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
• B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
• More than Five (5) Years of proven experience in control systems development, including PLC programming and integration with industrial hardware
• Proficiency in structured text and Ladder Logic PLC programming, plus drives, servos, and safety systems
• Experience with real-time communication protocols (TCP/IP, SPI, UART)
• Strong problem-solving skills with an R&D mindset
• Clear communication and system-level thinking

Bonus Skills

• Experience with AI integration, machine learning, and ML analytics
• Familiarity with STM32, Arduino, or similar microcontroller platforms
• GPU or edge-device inference platforms (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson)
• SCADA, MES, ERP, or DCS integration experience
• Hands-on automation projects involving AI, autonomy, or advanced analytics
