Lead Controls Engineer – Industrial Refrigeration Systems
We are seeking a Controls Engineer to support the design, implementation, and optimization of industrial control systems within refrigeration and mechanical projects. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with engineering teams, vendors, and field personnel to ensure systems are designed, installed, and operating effectively. This position focuses on controls design, integration, and troubleshooting—no PLC or BAS programming required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support design and layout of control systems, including panels, sensors, field devices, and network architecture
- Review electrical schematics, control drawings, and sequences of operation to ensure alignment with project requirements
- Coordinate with third-party controls vendors, BAS providers, and equipment manufacturers
- Assist with commissioning, functional testing, and system verification in the field
- Troubleshoot control system issues involving instrumentation, wiring, and communication networks
- Provide technical support to field technicians and service teams
- Participate in design reviews and recommend improvements for reliability, safety, and efficiency
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NEC, UL, ASME, OSHA)
- Maintain documentation including control narratives, I/O lists, and as-built drawings
- Support retrofit and modernization projects
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience with industrial control systems, electrical components, and instrumentation
- Familiarity with PLC-based or BAS systems (programming not required)
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control diagrams
- Hands-on troubleshooting experience in industrial or commercial environments
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods
- Occasional site visits requiring standing, climbing, and use of PPE
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity for detailed technical work
