Duties
- Greet customers warmly and assess their eyewear needs through active listening and professional consultation
- Dispense spectacle lenses accurately, ensuring proper fit and alignment for optimal vision correction
- Conduct eyewear fittings, adjustments, and repairs to enhance comfort and style
- Assist patients with selecting frames that suit their face shape, lifestyle, and personal preferences
- Operate POS systems and cash registers efficiently to process sales transactions while maintaining accuracy
- Support laboratory processes by preparing lens orders, verifying prescriptions, and managing optical inventory
- Maintain strict adherence to medical records, EMR/EHR systems, and clinical confidentiality policies in compliance with HIPAA and health regulation policies
- Educate patients on ophthalmology-related topics such as anatomy of the eye, physiology of vision, and basic medical terminology
- Follow clinic protocols for aseptic techniques during lens dispensing or any clinical procedures involving patient contact
- Stay updated on state healthcare regulations and medical coding requirements relevant to optical services
Skills
- Strong knowledge of optics, ophthalmology, anatomy of the eye, and physiology to provide informed guidance to customers
- Proven retail sales experience with excellent customer service skills that foster trust and satisfaction
- Familiarity with optical laboratory processes including spectacle lens dispensing, frame adjustment, and eyewear fittings
- Experience operating POS systems, Epic electronic health record platforms, and other clinic management software
- Ability to perform basic math calculations for pricing, insurance processing, and inventory management
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, clinical confidentiality policies, and health regulation policies ensuring compliance at all times
- Competence in using laboratory equipment for eyewear fabrication or adjustments as needed
- Effective communication skills to explain complex medical terminology clearly to patients of diverse backgrounds
- Experience in retail management or retail math is a plus for handling inventory or sales targets efficiently
