Job Overview
Library Specialist provides delivery of high-quality library services to the public, staffs the various service and help areas, assists in managing the day-to-day activities of the library, such as shelving and organizing library materials. The work performed is subject to review through observation, reports, and the results achieved.
Duties
- Performs a wide range of circulation duties, including answering phone calls; assisting with patron inquiries; checking materials in and out; shelving and shelf-reading; issuing library cards; locating materials; collecting library fees; and assisting patrons with technology (public computers, online catalogs, databases, printing, scanning, and basic mobile device support).
- May assist with materials processing, preparation, and repair as assigned. Evaluates and recommends items for repair, rebinding, or replacement.
- Participates in opening and closing procedures to ensure the library is prepared for public service.
- Supports library programs and events by helping with preparation, setup, teardown, registration, and general program assistance.
- Aids in promoting library programs, services, and events to patrons.
- Answers basic reference and reader’s advisory questions or refers inquiries to a supervisor or appropriate staff member.
- Interacts professionally and respectfully with patrons, coworkers, and others encountered in the course of daily work.
- Assists in maintaining an organized, welcoming, and inclusive library environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Pay: $16.00 - $22.00 per hour
