Position Summary
The Head Speech Coach is responsible for leading and developing Liberty High School's competitive speech program. The coach recruits and trains student participants, coordinates competition preparation, supervises assistant coaches and volunteers, and promotes excellence in public speaking, interpretation, and performance events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Organize and direct the high school speech program.
- Recruit and retain student participants.
- Plan and conduct regular practices and workshops.
- Coach students in individual and large-group speech events.
- Prepare students for district, state, and national speech competitions.
- Coordinate tournament registration, travel, and event logistics.
- Maintain communication with students, parents, school administration, and the Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA).
- Monitor student eligibility and academic progress according to district and state requirements.
- Manage program budgets, equipment, and materials.
- Promote positive sportsmanship, leadership, and student growth.
- Ensure compliance with district policies and safety procedures.
- Support assistant coaches and volunteers as assigned.
