What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technician position at Liberty Glass Company?
This job opening is for the Technician position. Experience is preferred, but not required; however, hourly rate-of-pay will be based on prior experience in the Glass Industry and/or Construction Industry. For the first 30 days, you will considered a Trainee and will be working alongside a current Technician/Glazier. After the first 90 days, you will be evaluated on your performance, and will be eligible for a pay raise based on that evaluation.
A valid Driver's License is REQUIRED for this position.
You will be trained according to your skill-level at the date of hire. As a Technician, you will eventually be held responsible for the following:
- Reading a tape measure accurately, to 16ths of an inch. *REQUIRED AT HIRE*
- Driving trucks to job sites and installing glass and glazing-related materials under the instruction of a Glazier, and later on your own.
- Cutting glass and mirror to size and specifications on the glass table.
- Cutting glass and mirror to size and specifications on the job site while glass is vertical on the rack truck.
- Installing replacement glasses for residential applications measured by Glaziers.
- Unloading and handling glass or mirror stock sheets up to 60" x 130" in teams of 2.
- Cutting and removing broken glass and prepping frames prior to new installation.
- Assisting Glaziers on commercial jobsites in the installation of storefront frames & glass.
- Cleaning and maintaining the shop area daily.
- Assisting Glaziers during shower door installations and other larger installations.
We are also hiring for the position of Glazier, but you MUST have prior experience in the Glass Industry specifically, with 1 or more employment references, and you will be held responsible for all of the following tasks from date of hire:
- Interpreting blueprints/shop drawings to determine the sizes and make-ups of commercial storefront window and entry elevations that you will then fabricate in-shop or on-site after R.O. verification.
- Installing and anchoring storefront doors and frames in prepped openings using a level or laser.
- Measuring custom replacement glasses for residential applications.
- Unloading and handling glass or mirror stock sheets up to 84" x 130" in teams of 2, or up to 48" x 84" by yourself.
- Stocking a company-provided service truck with your own hand tools.
- Measuring-to-order and installing shower doors and shower enclosures.
- Familiarity with maintenance procedures on a variety of storefront entrance systems, including offset pivot replacements, butt hinge replacements, continuous hinge replacements and/or retrofits, surface-mounted and concealed door closer replacements, center pivot replacements, flush-bolt lock replacements, Adams-Rite lock repair and replacements, etc.
- Handling and setting standard 1" insulated and 1-5/16" hurricane-impact commercial glass units with suction cups in teams of 2.
- Identifying various Low-E coating types on existing glass units in order to estimate the proper match upon service and/or replacement (i.e. - hard coats, soft coats, surface number, double-silver, triple-silver, color & reflectance, brand, etc.)
- Properly remove existing/original residential windows from rough openings in various substrates (brick, siding, stucco) and then install replacement windows (full replacements, to include window frame). You will be expected to properly measure for the replacement windows at the time of estimate, prior to window removal.

Pay: $13.50 - $21.50 per hour
