What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Scientist I position at Liberty Environmental?
Liberty Environmental, Inc. is seeking a Project Scientist for the Due Diligence practice in our Lebanon, NJ office. This role offers the opportunity to join a company with a reputation as a leading due diligence expert with extensive relationships in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions.
Reporting to the Due Diligence Group manager, the Project Scientist will perform various environmental due diligence assessments including Transaction Screen Environmental Assessments (TSEA), Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), and Phase II Site Investigations (SI).
Essential Functions:
- Conduct TSEAs, Phase I ESAs, and other due diligence assessments:
- Perform site inspections.
- Review historical records, including historical aerial photographs, historical Sanborn Fire Insurance maps, historical topographic maps, city directory listings, property records, and regulatory databases.
- Conduct interviews with property owners, facility managers, and/or tenants.
- Submit requests for files and information to state, county, and local government agencies.
- Perform in-person file reviews at state and local government agency offices.
- Prepare reports summarizing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Conduct Phase II Site Investigations (SI):
- Coordinate and schedule field work.
- Perform oversight of geophysical surveys, soil borings, groundwater well installations, and vapor points and collect soil, groundwater, and vapor samples.
- Compile and interpret sample analytical data using tables to compare applicable state standards.
- Prepare Phase II SI reports summarizing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
Required Qualifications:
- Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or related field.
- 0 – 3 years’ experience in the environmental science/engineering field.
- Ability to work independently.
- Proficient technical writing skills and understanding of industry-standard IT applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Frequent travel to our sites within New Jersey and New York (valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation required).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Environmental professional meeting the qualifications specified in the EPA’s All Appropriate Inquiry Final Rule.
