Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a System Test Technician based in Boston, MA. The System Test Technician will be responsible for performing system testing, diagnosing and troubleshooting technical issues, assembling and integrating electronic components, and supporting electromechanical systems. This role focuses on end-to-end system behavior in realistic use conditions: walk-through testing, stability, power-cycle recovery, calibration verification, and fast, evidence-based defect reporting.
You’ll work closely with SW, Algorithms, FPGA, RF, Mechanical, and Operations teams to help ensure systems are stable, repeatable, and ready for release
Essential Qualifications:
- Execute and help improve system-level test plans for prototypes and production-bound builds (daily/weekly regression, release readiness checklists).
- Run walk-through operational tests (repeatability, detection behavior, throughput, operator workflow), document outcomes, and flag regressions.
- Perform stability monitor uptime, data integrity, CPU/memory/disk, logs, thermal behavior, and failure modes; capture time-to-failure and recovery behavior.
- Perform power-cycle and recovery testing: reboot/power-loss scenarios, brown-outs, network dropouts, peripheral disconnect/reconnect; verify clean return to service and data flow.
- Support calibration and drift validation: run calibrations, verify expected outputs/health metrics, and track stability over time and across units/configurations.
- Reproduce field issues quickly and translate them into actionable defects for engineering with clear repro steps, conditions, evidence (logs/data), and pass/fail criteria.
- Maintain test assets and readiness: golden configurations/datasets, fixtures, cables, checklists, and a clear “how to run the test” playbook.
- Collaborate with SW/Algo/FPGA/RF/ME teams to debug issues using evidence (logs, captures, measurements) and confirm fixes via regression testing.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- System-level troubleshooting across hardware software boundaries (power, cabling, peripherals, services, configuration, timing/data flow).
- Comfortable working in a Linux environment (CLI): running tools/scripts, collecting logs, checking processes/services, managing basic configs.
- Basic scripting familiarity (Bash and/or Python) for running test tools, data collection, and simple automation.
- Networking / connectivity troubleshooting (required): Understanding of Ethernet networking fundamentals: IP addressing, DHCP vs static, basic routing/switching concepts, link status/speed.
- Ability to validate connectivity using tools such as ping, traceroute, ip/ifconfig, netstat/ss, arp, ethtool (as applicable).
- Comfortable accessing systems over SSH (key-based auth a plus) and transferring logs/files via scp/sftp.
- Hands-on comfort with common lab tools (DMM; scope/power supplies; spectrum tools a plus).
- Strong documentation: ability to write clear test notes, pass/fail criteria, and reproducible defect reports with supporting evidence.
- B.S. in Engineering or associate’s degree (AA/AS) in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical/Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Systems, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
- 3 years’ experience testing or supporting integrated HW/SW systems (systems with sensors, networking, embedded PCs, peripherals, etc.
Preferred (Bonus) Qualifications:
- Experience with RF/radar/mmWave systems, sensor platforms, or imaging systems.
- Familiarity with basic packet capture (tcpdump/Wireshark) for diagnosing intermittent issues.
- Experience supporting EMC/environmental pre-test activities.
