JOB SUMMARY
The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is accepting applicants for the full-time position of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) within Liberty County EMS. This position is responsible for administering appropriate emergency medical treatment at the Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced EMT level to patients.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Responds to calls for assistance involving emergency medical situations, including cardiac problems, breathing difficulties, childbirth, strokes, seizures, sports and automobile accidents, and other traumatic and medical incidents.
- Obtains medical histories and current event information; determines appropriate aid and response guidelines.
- Provides general medical care and treatment at the EMT Georgia scope of practice level to patients in an emergency situation as defined by state and local regulations.
- Communicates with medical personnel via 2-way radio and telephone regarding injured persons' condition, vitals, and other relevant treatment information.
- Transports patients in an ambulance.
- Completes required patient reports prior to the end of shift, including all billing and patient demographic data.
- Replaces, cleans, and restocks equipment and supplies.
- Assists and/or participates in training exercises and continuing education to maintain certification.
- Attends public functions to provide emergency medical response as needed.
- Provides public safety demonstrations and screenings.
- Maintains and restocks ambulance and conducts ambulance check-off at start of shift.
- Attends mandatory classes assigned by department.
- Subject to recall and mandatory overtime.
- Performs related duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects (>100 lbs.), climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed in an office, in a very noisy place, or outdoors occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- More than two (2) years of related experience required.
- Valid Georgia Class C driver’s license with acceptable MVR.
- State EMS certification at the EMT level as appropriate.
Knowledge Required
- Emergency medical practices; techniques; and standards.
- Radio communications.
- Ambulance operation; use; and maintenance.
- Procedures for handling special equipment and patient care items.
Skills Required
- Analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
- Operation of advanced medical equipment.
- Provision of medical care under emergency conditions.
- Oral and written communication.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The minimum annual compensation depends on your level of certification (shown below for 24-hours shift personnel including scheduled overtime):
- EMT-Basic = $49,699.52
- EMT-Intermediate = $50672.96
- EMT-Advanced = $52,214.24
