Liberty Common School is seeking a deputy headmaster to begin Wed 1 JUL 2026. LCS is a public, tuition-free school chartered by the Poudre School District in Fort Collins, Colorado utilizing the Core Knowledge© curriculum and timeless principles of classically oriented education. LCS enrolls over 1600 students grades k-12.

The deputy headmaster will assist the headmaster to provide leadership, direction, supervision, and accountability in the areas of instruction, curriculum, academic development, student achievement, premises safety, security, staff development, supervision, community building, fundraising, school advocacy, industry engagement, and professional leadership. The deputy headmaster is second-in-command, assumes headmaster duties in her/his absence, serves as the headmaster’s primary designee, and is part of the k-12 leadership team.
The position is new to the LCS organization. It is a senior-executive-level opportunity for an accomplished leader to shape a flagship institution and serve as the headmaster’s indispensable partner in securing LCS’s legacy for generations to come. FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Salary Exempt
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, Fulltime
WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week
SALARY: $80,000 - $176,000.00

Minimum Requirements:
- Desire and willingness to learn about Liberty’s history and philosophy and to uphold and promote the mission and values of the school,
- Ten years progressive leadership in classical or high-performing charter schools, or equivalent.
- Prior principal, superintendent, senior academic-leadership role, or equivalent.
- Proven capacity to sustain mission integrity and operational excellence amid pressure and growth.
- Unapologetic conviction in classical education, parental primacy, individual rights, limited government, and public-charter autonomy as bulwarks for self-governance.
- Superior judgment, emotional intelligence, and executive-communication skills.
- Experience providing direct support to a head-of-school, superintendent, academic staff organizations, and reporting to a board of directors.
- Successful record working with teams and effectively managing others.
- Successful experience hiring, managing, coaching, and evaluating classroom instructors.
- Demonstrated ability to represent the school in a professional and courteous manner to parents, students, and visitors.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a dynamic, customer-driven, public-school setting.
- Experience with successful tactics in school discipline.
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Characteristics:
- Deep understanding of Liberty Common School’s history, philosophy, curriculum, Charter, policies, mission, and values.
- Administrative experience spanning grades k-12.
- Familiarity overseeing junior-high and high-school athletics programs.
- Familiarity with Poudre School District and Colorado Department of Education reporting requirements.
- Experience implementing a merit-pay strategy for classroom-instructor compensation.
- Experience facilitating interaction with public officials, parents, students, donors, and staff.
- Experience with Colorado’s mandated academic assessments and other assessments relevant to Liberty Common School.
- Facilities-management experience.
- Drop-off/Pick-up traffic-management experience.
- Considerable administrative experience at Liberty Common School or another like it.
- Experience with Special Education.
- Familiarity and experience administering CRS Title 22, relevant sections of Title 19, a Colorado public-school Charter contract, all relevant federal titles.
- Familiarity with LCS School Policy and the LCS/PSD Charter.
Job Responsibilities
- The deputy headmaster supports, assists, and serves the headmaster in accomplishing all duties of the headmaster as described in School Policy 3.2 (https://www.libertycommon.org/about/governance/policy-manual)
- Fidelity to maintaining confidentiality regarding personnel matters, personally identifiable student information, family situations, and other sensitive management matters.
- The deputy headmaster is second-in-command, assumes headmaster duties in her/his absence, serves as the headmaster’s primary designee, and is a central figure of the k-12 leadership team. This includes serving as a coach and strategic partner to four campus principals ensuring consistent depth in classical instruction and fidelity to the school’s curriculum.
- Preserve, clarify, maintain, communicate, and project the school’s mission, vision, philosophy, and School Policy.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physcial Requirements:
- The ability to move safely in business workspaces.
- The ability to walk, sit, or stand for long periods of time (up to eight hours).
- The ability to lift 10-20 pounds when needed.
- The ability to maneuver uneven surfaces.
- The ability to work in occasionally loud environments.
- The ability to frequently use office technology including computers, copiers, and printers.
- The ability to physically cover four distinct campuses.
