Position Summary
The Varsity Girls Basketball Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the Varsity Girls Basketball program in a way that develops student-athletes spiritually, academically, socially, and athletically. This role works closely with the Varsity Head Coach to help create a competitive, positive, and Christ-centered environment where student-athletes can grow in confidence, skill, discipline, character, and leadership.
The assistant coach serves as a key member of the coaching staff and assists with practices, games, player development, team supervision, communication, and other responsibilities necessary to support the overall success of the girls basketball program.

Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Support and Alignment
- Support the vision, expectations, and structure established by the Varsity Head Coach and LCA Athletics.
- Help establish and reinforce consistent terminology, fundamentals, team expectations, and program culture.
- Promote a positive, teamfirst environment centered on growth, effort, accountability, competitiveness, and sportsmanship.
- Work collaboratively with the head coach and other members of the coaching staff to support the continued development of the girls basketball program.
- Reinforce team standards and expectations consistently with studentathletes.
- Assist with planning and leading structured, competitive, and developmentfocused practices.
- Teach basketball fundamentals, individual skills, offensive and defensive concepts, and team strategy.
- Provide individual and smallgroup instruction to help studentathletes improve technically and tactically.
- Assist with game preparation, ingame coaching, substitutions, scouting, film review, statistics, and other responsibilities assigned by the head coach.
- Provide clear, constructive feedback to help athletes improve individually and as a team.
- Assist in evaluating athlete performance and identifying areas for individual and team improvement.
- Support the development of basketball IQ, skill, toughness, confidence, effort, teamwork, and leadership.
- Reinforce accountability, coachability, sportsmanship, commitment, and positive team behavior.
- Build meaningful relationships with studentathletes while maintaining appropriate standards and expectations.
- Help create an environment where athletes feel challenged, supported, and encouraged to reach their potential.
- Assist the head coach and Athletic Department with scheduling, communication, equipment, uniforms, transportation expectations, and other team logistics as needed.
- Ensure compliance with OHSAA regulations, school policies, and Athletic Department expectations.
- Communicate clearly, professionally, and appropriately with athletes, parents, school staff, and the Athletic Department.
- Help supervise studentathletes before, during, and after practices and games.
- Attend required coaches meetings, trainings, and program events as directed by the Head Coach or Athletic Department.
- Support the school’s Christian mission through coaching, communication, and leadership.
- Model Christcentered behavior and encourage spiritual and personal growth among studentathletes.
- Use basketball as a platform to develop character, humility, discipline, resilience, teamwork, and servant leadership.
- Encourage athletes to represent Liberty Christian Academy with excellence, respect, and integrity.
- Coaching or playing experience in basketball, preferably at the high school, college, AAU, middle school, or competitive youth level.
- Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals, skill development, and team concepts.
- Strong teaching mindset with the ability to encourage, challenge, and develop studentathletes.
- Effective communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Varsity Head Coach, coaching staff, and Athletic Department.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Liberty Christian Academy.
- Previous high school, college, AAU, or competitive basketball coaching experience.
- Current Pupil Activity Permit or willingness to obtain one.
- Experience with player development, scouting, film breakdown, or game preparation.
- Ability to contribute in multiple areas of the program and take ownership of responsibilities delegated by the Varsity Head Coach.
