Responsibilities
The Executive Director (Registered Nurse, RN) in Home Health serves as the Administrator of the home health provider and is responsible for the administration of the day-to-day operations of the home care provider.
Coordinates and completes assigned projects to effectively support the immediate and long-range objectives of the company.
Oversees the eligibility of patients referred to home care services, planning for the services to be provided to patients and supervising their total home health care.
Implements and maintains administrative practices, agency philosophy, goals, and policies which assure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
Enhances the profitability of the agency; and providing motivation and retention of a qualified staff and assure the quality of services delivered.
Education and Experience
License Requirements
- Registered nurse with at least 1 year supervisory or administrative experience in a home healthcare or a related field.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Current Driver's License and vehicle insurance, and access to a dependable vehicle, or public transportation.
Additional State Specific Requirements
- AZ: Must have at least 3 years nursing experience with at least 24 months as a RN in home health services. The Executive Director/Administrator may not oversee more than 5 agencies.
- CA: If acting as nurse supervisor requires 2 years experience in the last 5 years in a home health agency, primary care clinic or health facility. If acting as the Director of Patient Care Services must have a BSN or higher degree in nursing and 3 years out of the last 5 years experience in a home health agency, primary care clinic or health facility which at least one of those years being in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or A registered nurse with four years experience within the last five years in a home health agency, primary care clinic or health facility, at least one year of which was in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
- CO: Must have 2 years healthcare or health service administration experience with at least 1 year of supervisory experience in home care or related health program.
- CT: Must have a master’s degree in nursing or a bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of supervisory or administrative experience in a healthcare facility; associate nursing degree cannot serve as Executive Director.
- DE: A registered nurse with five years health care experience and at least one year of supervisory experience (full-time or equivalent) in home health care
- LA: Must have 3 years of management experience in the delivery of health care service.
- MS: Must be one of the following: (1) An individual with a baccalaureate degree and at least 1 year of administrative experience in home health care or in a related health provider program occurring within the last 3 years. (2) An incumbent administrator as of July 1, 1981. (3) An individual with a minimum of 3 years of administrative experience in a health-related field, 1 year of which shall be full-time in a home health setting, occurring within the last 3 years.
- OK: Must have a Home Care Administrator Certification from the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Proof of the certification must be posted at the facility.
- NH: If the ED is also the Director of patient services, must have 2 years’ experience supervising personnel or providing direct home health care service.
- NJ: Must have a master's degree in nursing administration or a health-related field and at least 2 years of supervisory or administrative experience in home health or a healthcare setting OR a bachelor’s degree in nursing administration or health related field and 4 years of supervisory or administrative experience in home health or a healthcare setting.
- TX: Must not have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor listed in Tag 97.601(b). May also be the supervising nurse of the agency providing he/she meets the specific qualifications for supervising nurse. Must have evidence of 8 clock hours of educational training in the administration of an agency within the 12 months preceding designation of position per Texas Administrative Code.
- VA: Must have 1 year within the last 5 years of supervisory or administrative management experience in home health or a related field.
- AL, AR, D.C., DE, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, MI, MO, NC, NE, NM, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, WA, WI, WV: No additional requirements.
