Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Payment Posting Specialist to join our dynamic healthcare finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately posting payments from various sources, including insurance companies, patients, and third-party payers, into our electronic health record (EHR) and billing systems. Your expertise will ensure that accounts are correctly credited, discrepancies are identified promptly, and the revenue cycle remains smooth and efficient. Duties
- Review and reconcile incoming payments from insurance carriers, patients, and other payers to ensure accurate posting in EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems
- Verify payment details against explanation of benefits (EOB) statements, remittance advice, and billing records to confirm accuracy
- Apply payments to appropriate patient accounts using established coding standards such as DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems
- Identify and resolve discrepancies or unapplied payments by investigating account histories and communicating with billing or collections teams as needed
- Maintain detailed documentation of all payment transactions, adjustments, and corrections for audit purposes
- Collaborate with medical billing and coding teams to ensure proper categorization of services rendered using medical terminology and medical records information
- Support the collection process by flagging accounts requiring follow-up or further action
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing, medical coding, or payment posting within a healthcare setting
- Strong knowledge of DRG classifications, CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, and medical terminology
- Familiarity with EMR systems and EHR platforms for efficient data entry and record management
- Understanding of medical records management and the revenue cycle process in healthcare facilities
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to analyze complex payment data accurately
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with insurance companies, patients, and internal teams
- Prior experience working with medical collections or in a medical office environment is preferred
