The LGBTQ Religious Archives Network (LGBTQ-RAN) is an essential resource dedicated to preserving the history and fostering the scholarly study of LGBTQ religious leaders and movements worldwide. LGBTQ-RAN assists faith leaders and groups within the LGBTQ community in preserving their records and archives in suitable repositories. The organization maintains an online clearinghouse of archival collections and historical resources for use by historians, researchers, and the public. Additionally, LGBTQ-RAN hosts discussions and programs to highlight and connect this rich history with contemporary experiences. Its mission is to ensure the voices and experiences of diverse LGBTQ religious leaders and groups are preserved and accessible for future generations.


Role Description

This is a remote, part-time role for an Archivist at LGBTQ-RAN. The Archivist will be responsible for evaluating, organizing, and managing archival collections related to LGBTQ religious history. Day-to-day tasks include cataloging, preserving, and digitizing historical records, maintaining the online clearinghouse, and collaborating with leaders and repositories to ensure proper storage of materials. The Archivist will also develop and implement strategies to promote accessibility and engagement with these archives to support research and public education.


Qualifications

  • Archival management, cataloging, and record-keeping skills
  • Familiarity with digital preservation and online resource management
  • Research and evaluation skills for organizing and analyzing historical materials
  • Proficiency in digital technologies and relevant software used in archival work
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse communities and repositories
  • Knowledge or interest in LGBTQ history, religious studies, or related fields
  • Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Archives, History, or related field; advanced degree preferred
  • Commitment to preserving and advocating for diverse and underrepresented voices and histories


Compensation and Hours

This is a contract position with an average of 20 hours a month and an hourly rate of $35.  The Archivist will participate in LGBTQ-RAN online staff meetings every three weeks and may be expected to lead or participate in other meetings as needed.
